Year  1/2 News

It’s been a fantastic start to Term 2 for our Year 1 and 2 students!

In week 1, we celebrated Wellbeing Week by focusing on re-establishing the important relationships between teachers and students, and students with each other. We revisited our essential agreements, reminding ourselves how we work together to create a safe, respectful, and fun learning environment. The week was filled with team-building activities, discussions, and plenty of laughter, setting a positive tone for the term ahead.

In week 2, we launched our brand new Unit of Inquiry, ‘How the World Works.’ To kick it off with a bang, the Year 1s and 2s became mad scientists for the day! We were thrilled to welcome a special visitor from Mad About Science, who led an incredible incursion all about the human body.

The students got hands-on with fascinating experiments. Students made human eyeballs, explored how stomach acid breaks down food, and discovered that electricity actually flows through our bodies! The room was buzzing with excitement and curiosity, as students dived into the messy, marvelous world of science.

The hands-on experiences sparked a lot of questions and wonderings, with many students expressing curiosity and discussions of the next steps occurring well after the incursion ended. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and engagement as we began our exploration into the amazing systems that keep our bodies working.
