We're excited to share that our recent focus in Foundation has been catching. Over the past few weeks, Foundation students have been actively engaged in mastering the fundamental steps of catching, including the important steps of "eyes on the ball," "bend your knees," and "fruit bowl hands". Through fun and interactive activities, we've been reinforcing these skills. Additionally, we've introduced new games that not only make learning enjoyable but also emphasise the importance of following rules and teamwork. Some of the cohort’s favourite’s have been Clean Up The Backyard, Scarecrow Tiggy and Pet Catcher.
Our recent Physical Education sessions have been brimming with excitement as we focused on developing our Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS). This week, we practised the skill of punting. The children had a great time learning to kick the ball with accuracy and control. Through fun games and activities, everyone improved their punting skills while enjoying themselves. It’s been fantastic to see the students' confidence and abilities grow with each session. We’re excited to watch their skills continue to develop and look forward to more fun in PE!

The Year 3 students have continued to learn about the field events they will be competing in for our Year 3-6 Athletics Day in week 10. This will be the Year 3’s first time participating in the Athletics Day and the students have been so excited learning about and practising the events. The events that students learnt about were; Shot Put and Discus. The students embraced the challenge of mastering these technically demanding skills. Despite the complexity involved, the Year 3 students demonstrated impressive ability and achievement in their first attempt.
To finish off our Athletics Unit students have been revising the events Shot Put and Discus. It was great to see how much students remembered from participating in Athletics Day last year. In Shot Put, you hold a heavy ball against your neck and push it as far as you can away from your body. It's all about strength and technique. For discus, you sling a heavy, flat object like a big, heavy frisbee. It's a mix of strength and coordination. The Year 4 students made significant improvements and we can’t wait to see them showcase these skills on Athletics Day.
Over the last few weeks we finished our Athletics Unit by focusing on the final two events Shot Put and Discus. Student’s already had a solid understanding of these skills from previous years. We spent some time revising and refining their techniques emphasising not only power but also accuracy. This meant students had to adjust their technique for a more controlled throw ensuring they weren’t performing no throws. We're eagerly anticipating seeing our students showcase their athletic skills at the upcoming Athletics Day! For the remainder of the term, we will be focusing on Invasion Games.
