This term Year 11 and 12 have been focused on work ready skills, writing resumes and covering letters. Students have researched the local job market, identifying the skills employers require and tailoring their resumes to match.
Year 11 also started investigating current affairs through the medium of documentaries and will write an essay in response. Topics have included: regenerative farming, soil erosion, the future of farming and the effects of climate change.
Year 12 are now busy creating persuasive posters and speeches on a topic of their choice. They have chosen a range of topics, although the live export ban has proven a popular choice! We look forward to hearing their speeches.
The Year 11 ATAR class are currently completing a unit on Australian short stories. In groups, they have read, researched and presented on a range of fiction, including classics such as The Drover’s wife. The class has considered the effect context has on our understanding of a text and the representations of groups within texts. This has led to learning about the role of women in society and the discrimination of marginalised groups over time.
The Year 12 ATAR class are immersing themselves in the study of the graphic novel Maus. The novel focuses on the impact of the Holocaust told by a survivor. The class have familiarised themselves with the context, including the rise of the Nazi party and the features of the graphic novel genre. Although the novel's content is harrowing, the class enjoys the novel and learning about a significant event in modern history.
