Year 3/4 News

Akshpreet, Leannder and Sean

So far in the third term, our Year 3 and 4 students have been engaging in a variety of enriching learning activities across multiple subjects.

Reading and Text Analysis

Our students have been sharpening their reading skills by focusing on identifying the main idea and recognizing important text features in various texts. From captivating stories to informative articles, they have been learning how to pinpoint the central theme and understand how features like headings, subheadings, bold words, and captions enhance their comprehension.

Persuasive Writing

In addition to text analysis, the students have been delving into persuasive writing. They are learning the importance of perspective and points of view and how to use language effectively to convince and persuade their audience. By writing their persuasive texts, they are developing critical thinking skills and learning how to articulate their ideas compellingly.

Mathematics

Math lessons have been equally exciting, with a focus on addition and subtraction, and revisiting 2D and 3D shapes. Students have been applying different written and mental strategies to solve problems involving numbers up to four digits and being able to clearly articulate the place value for these numbers. Through interactive activities and problem-solving exercises, they are building a strong foundation in arithmetic and gaining confidence in their mathematical abilities.

Inquiry into Renewable and Sustainable Energy

This term’s inquiry topic has been about renewable and sustainable energy sources. Our students have been researching and exploring various forms of clean energy, including solar, wind, geothermal, and tidal energy. They have been investigating how these energy sources work and their benefits for the environment. This inquiry not only broadens their scientific knowledge but also instils an appreciation for sustainable practices and the importance of caring for our planet.
