I want to extend my sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and incredible support the Clayton North Primary community have shown me during my time as Acting Principal over the past three weeks. Being part of such a friendly and vibrant community has been a privilege. I have been blown away by the fabulous learning going on in each classroom, the focus and kindness of the students and the dedication and care of the staff. This truly is a very special place to be! Thank you for having me.
On Wednesday 17th and 31st of July, Khadijah, Keenan, Gio and Nubaid attended John Monash Science School for their final two sessions of the Little Scientist Program. In the first session, they investigated biological sciences, examining cells through a microscope and studying the adaptations of different animals that have helped them to survive. In their final session, the team were supported by mentors from JMSS to design their own experiment. The group chose to investigate climate change and plan to test the effect of different types of materials on the temperature inside a container. We look forward to seeing the results of their experiment!
On Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st of July, a group of students participated in the Victorian Students' Parliamentary Program. They had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the workings of state government and develop an understanding of the democratic process. Engaging in simulated parliamentary sessions, they listened to two guest speakers present about the benefits and drawbacks of utilising AI in the classroom, before forming their own opinions, presenting to the other schools and then casting their votes. Ultimately, our students voted ‘Aye’ when asked whether students should be taught about how to use AI in the classroom. The session finished with an address from Ms Jess Wilson MP, Shadow Minister for Early Childhood and Education, Shadow Minister for Finance and Shadow Minister for Economic Reform and Regulation and the opportunity to ask her some fantastic questions about her entry into politics.
Thanks!
