State School Spectacular

Last week, the State School Spectacular mass choir students travelled into the city by train for our first mass choir rehearsal. We had previously had one rehearsal with a few other schools, but this experience was amazing as there were over a thousand other students present.

With Claire, our conductor, and Jack on keyboards, we practised all thirteen songs that we will be singing on the day of the State School Spectacular. We also found out about an amazing Polynesian school choir that will be performing at the event. Additionally, we learned some sign language for the song "Sail Away" from students at a Deaf School.

It was a long day, but everyone worked hard and learned a lot. Conductor Claire made sure we had a lot of fun too.

Australian Girls’ Choir

On Friday, all the girls in the school will bring home a notice inviting them to audition for the Australian Girls’ Choir. This is an out of school hours program

If you would like your daughter to audition, please fill out the form attached to the notice and return it to Jenny (or register online).

A representative from the Australian Girls’ Choir will visit the school on Friday, August 16th at 2:30 pm. All interested girls will sing together and receive feedback from the representative.

The notice has information and QR code, so you can learn more about the choir and discover the locations where the choir rehearsals take place.

Art Room News

Students in Years 5/6 studied the work of Japanese artist Hokusai and drew and painted their version of his famous artwork titled 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'. It was wonderful to see all the different interpretations of this landscape and painting techniques on display.

Years 3/4 students worked on their clay modelling and construction skills to construct 3D alien ufos. It was fantastic to see their imaginative ideas come to life and watch their creations glow under black light.

Years 1/2 explored the textile skill of weaving and wove these marvellous rainbows. Although challenging at first, I was impressed to see students persist and master the skill, with many working as experts to help their classmates.

Lastly, we have Olympics fever in the Art room with all year levels working on some artworks around the Olympics theme. Foundation students designed their gold medals as well as experimented with printmaking to make the Olympic rings. Stay tuned for more Olympic-themed artworks to come!
