From the Classrooms

Grade 1 & 2 Cultural Lunch

During CBL in Term 2, the Grade 1 and 2 students were focusing on the history of food in Australia. We started with indigenous foods exploring the native berries, nuts and animals that would have commonly been eaten in different parts of Australia thousands of years ago. We explored foods that were brought to Australia during colonisation and with different waves of immigration within the last 200 years. This included foods from England and Asia and then food that was developed in Australia such as Vegemite. This culminated in a celebration in the last week of term where the students were invited to bring in food, to share with their class, that was special to their family. It may have been from their cultural heritage or something their family enjoyed eating together. This celebration also included making Vegemite scrolls and playing some indigenous games we had learnt earlier in the term. The students had a wonderful time learning about each other through their sharing of special foods. Thanks to all the wonderful parent helpers too who were fantastic at helping on the day.
