STEM

Last week in STEM, students completed activities about World Environment Day. This day is held on June 5th each year.

This week, Preps looked at which clothing is appropriate to wear for each of the four seasons.

Grades 1-6 had a ‘STEM Challenge Week’, where students had to use paper and sticky tape to create a paper chair. Some students then gave themselves an extra challenge, by seeing if their created chair would hold an item. Some students even sketched out a design first before constructing!

Well done to Teddy Smith and Ella Nepean for receiving STEM certificates this week. Well done to 1/2B for receiving the class certificate for this week.

In The Artroom

All grades continued the drawing unit in the Artroom, developing their observational and real life drawing skills. This week gr 3/4  and 5/6 students continued their observational drawings using line elements of detail, shading and tonal value. They used a reference picture to copy from and drew every detail they observed. They also had a go at drawing a still life sketch of fruit; they looked very realistic!

Gr 1/2s had three different drawing activities to complete; 1/ was drawing a sketch of real fruit arranged on their tables, 2/ drawing using a step by step process and 3/ drawing the other half of a creature.

We have some new art displays in the front office and open learning area which look wonderful, come along and have a look!

Ms Brown has posted 2 drawing competitions on our Hamilton Gray St Primary school facebook page, read the information and enter if you’re interested.
