FOR SACRED HEART FAMILIES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

CHANGES TO ABSENCE NOTIFICATIONS

Sacred Heart School must keep a register of enrolment and daily attendance of all children at the school. To comply in accordance with the Registration Systems and in the best interest of students, documentation to substantiate the reason for absence is required.  An appropriate reason must be recorded; otherwise, the absence will be recorded as unexplained.

To provide consistency across the Diocese, the Armidale Catholic Schools Office implemented changes to Absence Notifications.

If your child is absent from school and it is unexplained, the following will take place:

  • A daily SMS absence notification will be sent at 10:00am (parents/carers should give a reason for the absence)
  • If the absence is still unexplained at the end of each week, an Unexplained Absence Letter will be emailed WEEKLY on a FRIDAY at 11:00am. The reason for the absence should be provided within 7 days of the initial absence.
    • If a reason is not provided within that time frame, the absence will be recorded as UNEXPLAINED.

Please respond with one of the following 3 options:

  • Logging onto your Compass Portal or App <https://sacredheartboggabri-nsw.compass.education> or
  • Email the school <bogadmin@arm.catholic.edu.au> or
  • Phoning the school <02 6743 4656>

ICAS ASSESSMENTS

ICAS is a historic academic competition that has been sat by over 10 million school students from 16,000 schools across 41 countries since 1981.

It recognises academic performance in a way similar to sports or the arts, with engaging, fun questions designed by psychometricians, education measurement experts and experienced teachers to test students’ higher-order thinking skills.

The ICAS assessments are open to students in Year 3 to 6 at our school. Parents are able to see the cost of each assessment and enter their child if they think that it is suitable for them. The assessments will be delivered to the students at school on the designated dates.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN ICAS

If you wish for your child to participate in ICAS this year, to sign up to your chosen subject areas using the link below and use the school access code: JMZ547 . Registration for all subject areas closes on Monday 29 July at 11:59pm.

For further information, please contact either Ms Traynor or Mrs Goddard.

WINTER WEATHER

As the days become colder and many different illnesses are circulating in our school and the community, we ask that you please remind your children about the importance of covering your coughs and sneezes.

Sneeze, blow your nose or cough into a disposable tissue, and discard the tissue immediately into a bin. If tissues are not readily available, cough or sneeze into your upper arm or sleeve; avoid using your hands. Move away from other people when coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing using soapy water or hand sanitiser.

**It would be appreciated if each family could bring in a box of tissues for the classroom.

BEST PRACTICE:  if your child is sick, home is the best place for them.

If your child does return to school and needs the administration staff to administer medication, please contact Robyn in the office for a SHORT TERM ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION FORM to complete and ensure that the medication has your child's name on it and is in its original package.

If your child is away from school for 3 or more consecutive days due to illness, parents should request a medical certificate from their treating doctor.
