Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday, the OLHC staff participated in professional learning on the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM). Developed by educators for educators, this model provides practical strategies for immediate use in the classroom and across the school.
Our commitment to integrating the BSEM into our school culture will continue through ongoing professional development, with staff participating in four days of training over the next 12 months. This will ensure that we will consistently enhance our educational practices and maintain a nurturing and effective learning environment.
The BSEM training will equip our teachers with the skills to better understand and meet the diverse learning needs of our students. One key aspect of the training is understanding how informed teaching practices benefit child development and learning. This approach will help to create a supportive and positive classroom environment, essential for fostering student growth and achievement.
Another focus of the training is on strengthening student-teacher relationships. Through the training we will learn strategies to build and maintain positive relationships, which are vital for promoting an inclusive and engaging classroom atmosphere. When students feel valued and supported, they are more likely to thrive academically and socially.
As part of the BSEM training, we will be introduced to effective classroom behaviour management techniques. By applying these positive relational strategies, we aim to create a harmonious classroom environment that encourages cooperation and mutual respect. This approach not only helps manage classroom behaviour but also supports students in developing self-regulation and positive social interactions.
Additionally, the BSEM course emphasises strengths-based practices. We are committed to recognising and nurturing the individual strengths of each student. By focusing on these strengths, we can help students build confidence and resilience, leading to improved academic and personal outcomes.
At OLHC, our mission is to provide quality teaching and learning experiences that cater to the needs of every student. We look forward to implementing these strategies and witnessing the positive changes in our classrooms.
