Learning Update

From Mr Collins 3-6

WELCOME RYLEY TO THE 3-6 CLASSROOM!!!!

On Monday we welcomed Ryley into our classroom and greater Raywood community. Ryley is in grade 3 and has been a big hit with the other kids. Over the week, Ryley has already adapted to our school context and is now able to move along at our 'brisk' pace. He barracks for the Brisbane Lions but with a bit of time I think I can sway this decision.

English

Our hybrid texts were due this week and the kids have done an amazing job at combining both fiction and non-fiction elements into a single published text. On Friday we completed a movers and stayers reading rotation with all of the kids and it was a hit. (see photo below) We will soon begin some spelling assessments to plan for next semester.

Maths

Time is still our number one priority in Maths. The kids are working their way through a rubric to try to become expert time masters. We have also built on our division and multiplication through both written forms and times table rotations.

TRP (The Resilience Project)

This week we learnt about being mindful through breathing techniques and yoga. The aim was to calm our minds, which certainly worked. The following activity was completely silent. Great job on attempting all of the difficult moves with such positivity everyone!

Getting Weird with the footy ladder...

As you may know, the students were allocated a football team at the beginning of the season and each week we put the students against each other to try to tip the winner. This week we decided an abdomal strength challenge could be the predictor. Everyone gave it their best but we can safely say that this is not the most accurate way to tip a winner!

PE

We varied our Hockey over the last few weeks with the use of a soft padded stick along with a foam ball. In the game we play, the aim is to work as a team to move the ball to one end of the stadium and hit the wall. IT seems easy but is a lot harder than it looks.

Bowling is in full swing now, with some very different results in the first few sessions. We have taken the results from each week and used them to decide the lane competitors. Mr Sait even had a go last week, proudly beating some of the senior students with his final bowl.

Bring Your Wheels Day

What didn't we have at school last week????? All of the wheeled vehicles zoomed around both the track and the school grounds all day, with some even being used to transport 'cubby-building' materials. Thank you to all of the parents who helped organise these with their kids!

Literacy

Our P–2 students have been busy demonstrating their learning through a range of new literacy assessments. It has been wonderful to see the confidence and growth students are showing as they apply their reading, writing and communication skills. These assessments help us monitor progress and plan for future learning.

Numeracy

In Mathematics, students have been exploring the concepts of days of the week, sequencing events, and telling time. Learning about time can be challenging, as it requires students to connect number knowledge with real-world experiences, but they have been working hard and making excellent progress. The next time you see an analog clock (I know, it's pretty rare these days) ask your child what the time is.

Science

In Science, students have been investigating how materials can change and react. As part of our learning about chemical reactions, students enjoyed creating their own volcanoes in the sandpit and observing the exciting reactions that occurred.

I am incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication P-2 kids bring to their learning each day and will continue to nurture a classroom culture where mistakes are welcomed and viewed as opportunities for growth. Students are learning that some of the most powerful learning happens when we make errors, reflect on them, and try again.
