NEW CALEDONIA! AN UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURE

Our recent trip to New Caledonia was an absolute success, packed with rich cultural experiences, language practice, and incredible outdoor adventures! 

The journey kicked off with a day in paradise on Amedee Island, where students explored pristine beaches, spotted sea turtles aboard a glass-bottom boat, and joined in traditional tropical dance performances. Back on the main island, we immersed ourselves in local history and culture with visits to the Tjibaou Cultural Centre, a guided walking tour of Nouméa city, and trips to the Maritime and WWII museums.

Language skills were put into action every single day! Beyond taking part in interactive lessons with local teacher Julie, students stepped out of their comfort zones to order their own lunches, navigate local markets, and explore the aisles of the “Giant Supermarket”. Standout moments included joining the local community for Nouméa’s vibrant Pre-Bastille Day lantern parade, hiking up Ouen Toro for spectacular views, and braving the rain to visit the Parc Forestier to see New Caledonia’s famous flightless Cagou bird.

Throughout the week, time was reserved for relaxation, pool time, group trivia, and daily journal reflections. We enjoyed devotions on a range of topics, such as bravery and gratitude, encouraging students to embrace every new opportunity. 

Our students represented the school community exceptionally well and approached new challenges with enthusiasm. Our final day allowed us to reflect on the growth experienced on the trip and the new connections formed across year levels and friendship groups. Students returned to Melbourne with lasting memories, boosted confidence, and plenty of stories to share!
