Get creative on Character Dress-Up Day next Tuesday August 22

Unleash your creativity and step into the pages of your favourite book – you might be rewarded with a prize!

Next Tuesday August 22 is Character Dress-Up Day, a highlight of Book Week at EDSC.

Students and staff can come to school dressed as their favourite book character (and don’t forget, many movie and TV characters started in books and there are a multitude of manga and graphic novel characters).

Get planning with your friends to come as characters in the same book or go it alone as your favourite literary hero.

Prizes will be awarded at the lunchtime costume parade in the Upper Courtyard.

Your gold coin donation to come dressed up will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

We can’t wait to see your costumes!

Next week is Book Week

Don’t miss all the fun and prizes of Book Week at EDSC next week.

Library staff and student leaders have created events around this year’s Book Week theme:  Read, Grow, Inspire. Fun and prizes will be on offer every day from August 22 to 25.

All Week – all over campus every lunchtime

‘Mystery Reader’ is back!

Last year’s hit activity will be running every lunchtime from Tuesday to Friday. Students will scour the school yard looking for the mystery staff members reading. Win a prize if you can tell us who and where the readers are, and what they are reading. Go into the second chance draw for further prizes.

Tuesday August 22 – lunchtime Upper Courtyard

Character Dress-Up Day. Students and staff can come to school dressed as their favourite book character (and don’t forget, most movie characters started in books and there are a multitude of manga characters). Or get planning with your friends to come as characters in the same book. Prizes will be awarded at the lunchtime parade.

Wednesday August 23 – lunchtime in the Library

Students can decorate or transcribe inspirational quotes onto seed paper, then keep it, gift it, or plant the seeds of an idea and watch creativity grow.

Thursday August 24 – lunchtime in the Library

Photo Booth Day. Students can grab their friends, grab a prop, and get a classic pic with the reading growth chart.

Friday August 25 – all day in the Library

Every book loan will come with a free Lucky Dip wrapped up in an inspirational quote. You can make it into a bookmark or stick it up on your wall to elevate your mood for the rest of the year.

There will also be a daily Book Week Quiz for students to test their literary knowledge and win a prize. Watch the Compass Feed to get involved.

Come into the Library during Book Week to celebrate with the rest of EDSC’s amazing reading community.

EDSC Reading Challenge – Less than two weeks to go!

We have nearly reached the end of this year’s EDSC Reading Challenge. There are less than two weeks to go!

Students need to enter all their books into the Reading Challenge form by Wednesday August 30.

There are great prizes up for grabs, and a pizza party and certificate for students who read and verify 15 or more books.

Students must visit the Library to verify their reading once they are notified by email that they have reached 15 books – so keep an eye on those emails.

EDSC students have now read and recorded a staggering 4,294 books in the Reading Challenge!

Congratulations to Arshida of 7H who has won this fortnight’s $10 canteen voucher prize draw (all students who have entered a book into the Reading Challenge are eligible).

Students who are close to reading 15 books are encouraged to visit the library where Ms Daniels or Ms Andersen can help them choose books to reach their reading goal.

2023 Booklist Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Campion?

Campion is a third party company that EDSC uses to administer our booklist and supply new books to students.

Do I have to buy everything on the list?

You need to buy everything listed for the subjects your student is enrolled in. However, general stationery items such as pens and rulers do not need to be purchased from Campion if you already own these items or can source them elsewhere.

Do I have to buy books through Campion, or can I buy second-hand books elsewhere?

You don’t have to buy the books through Campion. However, there is a risk of buying incorrect editions of textbooks from other parties, as textbooks are revised regularly. If you’d like to buy second-hand books, we recommend buying them through the Sustainable School Shop. This company has been supplied with the EDSC booklist and can help ensure you buy the correct editions.

If you buy a second hand book, you should also check whether you need to purchase a digital code to access any extra online resources required.

Why am I charged $15.95 at the end of my order?

Campion charges a $5.95 processing fee for all orders and orders will also be charged a $10 home delivery fee as due to COVID-19, school delivery and pick-up is unable to take place. However, you may be able to organise order pick-up from Campion by contacting Campion directly.
