Principal's Report

Principal Report

As Term 3 marches on, this time of the school year offers our students a range of challenging and engaging activities both inside and outside of the classrooms.

Our Year 11 students are currently on camp, skiing in the snowfields of Victoria or enjoying the warmer weather of the Gold Coast, undertaking work experience placements or involved in our Job-Skill training course.

Our Year 12 students are working very hard to complete their final major assessment task over the remaining weeks of term and then turn their sights on our exam-revision period in Term 4.

In the very near future, we will outline our forward planning for our NASA Space Camp in 2024, offering an amazing experience for the student’s fortunate enough to be involved.

In the final week of August we will see a brilliant set of performances in our annual “Attitudes - The Show Must Go On” - our student talent showcase with both daytime and evening performances.

In three weeks, our Year 8 cohort will be involved in their camp experience in South Gippsland.

As we move towards the end of Term 3, the above-mentioned events (and more) offer a great showcase of student leadership, participation, excellence and adventure that reflect the elements that make our College a wonderful place to learn and grow, broaden horizons and present opportunities for students to find and follow their passions.

To our Year 12 students and their families, in particular, I am aware of the challenges you are facing as we enter the second half of this term before the important exam-preparation that commences in Term 4. Our best wishes are extended to you, along with our firm hopes that you can maintain a healthy balance in your studies in these busy times. Whilst it may appear difficult, we would encourage all our Year 12 students to ensure that they are able to reflect on what a healthy and balanced lifestyle may look like over this period of time. There will, no doubt, be significant amounts of time devoted to study and revision – as there should be at this stage of the year. However, we would further encourage all students to ensure that they are able to focus on exercise, diet and getting enough sleep.

Experience leads us to observe that those who cope best with these significant challenges are usually those who have found a reasonable balance in their busy lives.

Student Free Day - Monday 21 August

A reminder that on Monday 21 August our teachers will be engaged in a professional learning day. All of our teachers will be undertaking extensive professional development on curriculum planning and documentation in all learning domains to ensure cohesion, sequencing and scaffolding of key content and skills across in all levels of our learning program.

I’m confident that the activities undertaken next Monday will enable all our teachers to grow professionally and be better placed to deliver a curriculum that both supports and challenges our students and caters for their individual needs.
