Father's Day Mass

Last Friday, 1 September we celebrated our Father’s Day Masses continuing this annual celebration of fatherhood and the important role that our dads play in our lives. We gathered in the Gym as fathers, grandfathers, father figures and sons to celebrate Mass and spend time in reflection together. Our focus was on wisdom and blessing, as we looked at the image of the older oxen working with the younger oxen in the yoke; learning to work together while the younger ones learn their role from the older ones. We offered blessings to one another in words and song. It was a simple expression not only of faith, but love and affection between generations of men.

Dads and grandads, you are our models and our guides. You are often who we want to be. You give us our values and teach us how to hold ourselves. You are with us on our journey and for this we are thankful. You are our example of God’s wisdom in this world. You accept us for who we are, even if that is different to you. Let us learn from one another and grow together.

SOL Service Year 5 – Year 10

The College’s Mission is:

“Inspired by the Gospel and Edmund Rice, our purpose is to educate resilient and spirited men who are challenged to serve.  We are preparing faithful and inclusive men for a dynamic world.”

One way we aim to do this is by engaging each student in Service as part of their enrollment at the College and part of their everyday life. This is what we call Service Learning – people learning through service and learning about the importance of service in the world, which is founded on our Faith Tradition.

We are now moving into the final stages of SOL Service for 2023. All students in Years 5 - 10 are required to have earned a minimum number of points throughout the year:

Year GroupsPoints
Year 5 and 68 points
Year 7 and 810 points
Year 9 and 1015 points

This needs to be completed by 3 November 2023.

If parents/carers have any questions about completion of SOL service or what activities can be included, this is best addressed to their class teacher or homeroom teacher in the first instance.

Recently some of our boys in Years 5 to 8 have been recognised for their service through Kids Giving Back Programs.

  • Spencer O'Neill
  • Oliver Miliauskas
  • Jayden Chow
  • Campbell Meilak
  • Rhys Burnicle

Kids Giving Back run several volunteering programs for kids, teenagers, and families. The outcomes of some of the community programs these boys participated in include:

  •  Producing over 8500 hot meals, salads, fruit kebabs, breakfast boxes, snack packs and care packs with empathetic, positive messages, which were distributed to 15 charities around Sydney.
  • 1800 servings of soup served at a twice weekly soup kitchen.

Service learning such as this builds leadership qualities, compassion, and a strong sense of civic responsibility all of which is completely in tune with what our SOL Service Program is all about. Further information about Kids Giving Back programs can be found here: Home | Kids Giving Back.
