Student Wellbeing

What a difference a day makes in relation to our weather, last week cold and windy and the last week of Term 3 – increasing warm and sunny.

Only in Melbourne would this be possible but as we approach the end of Term 3, it is timely to reflect on some significant events in this part of the term.

Brigidine Celebration Day

Tuesday 5 September was our annual celebration of our Core Values and who we are as a school, when we celebrated Brigidine Celebration Day with a clear focus on our Core Value of COURAGE.

Firstly, the day began with our School Mass celebrated by Bishop Martin Ashe.

We were then fortunate to have two guest speakers, Sam Clear and Uncle Ron Murray, who joined us for the day and they linked the theme of COURAGE to their presentations.

We then had the carnival part of the day which was unfortunately disrupted by the windy and rainy conditions but the students enjoyed all of the food options, the DJ and even the Amazing Race organised by Mr Ha and Ms Schild.

Finally, the day ended with Marian has Talent event organised by our VCE Vocational Major class. We enjoyed a demonstrated of a variety of acts, including dancing queens, singers, cultural dancers who are so proud of their heritage, and the solving of the Rubix Cube in record time.

It was a great day to stop and remember what makes our community special and what connects to both our heritage and the core values on which we are built.

Presentation by the Student Representative Council to the Stewardship Council on Thursday 7 September

On Thursday 7 September, our senior Student Representative Council members presented to the College Stewardship Council an overview of the work that they have been focusing on in 2023.

The presentation looked at their work in relation to:

  • Changes to the uniform particularly in the areas of the Health and PE uniform
  • An overview of the data collected from their Bullying and Harassment survey in August
  • The area of Child Safety – Safety Audit of the school buildings and analysis of the Child Safety Register
  • the focus groups and an insight into what students are saying about the wellbeing program and how we are giving student a voice in what they would like to see change at the College
  • Suggestions for 2024 and how the student leaders may build school spirit
  • Further areas that could become part of the work of the 2024 leaders

The presentation was positively received by the council members who left the leaders with the question of:

How can the council support the work of the student leaders into the future?

The Student Leaders will consider this question over the next couple of Leadership meetings so as to construct a response for the Council at the October meeting. We look forward to sharing with you their response in coming editions.

End of Term Assembly

On Thursday 14 September we held our end of term assembly and it was a celebration of what we have achieved over the course of this term.

Awards Evening is Coming

Our annual Awards Evening will be held on Thursday 12 October. Award recipients will be notified in the first week of the holidays via Operoo that they are receiving an award for their efforts in 2023.

This is a great celebration of what has been achieved over the course of the year by so many members of our community. It also allows the community to farewell the Year 12’s of  2023.

We look forward to this evening as a celebration of 2023.

Finally some uniform reminders….

As we move towards the warmth of summer and the beginning of Term 4 students will now move back to the summer uniform. This means that students are to be in either the summer dress and school blazer or School pants, white emblemed shirt and school blazer – no tie is necessary.

We ask that families check their uniform prior to the term starting on Monday 2 October. A reminder that the uniform shop at the College will be open on Wednesday and Friday over the school holidays for your uniform needs.

Finally,

Holidays allows all of us time to rest, rejuvenate, and hopefully spend some time doing activities that give us energy with family and friends.

Stay safe and enjoy the sun….
