Pi Precision Challenge, Year 7 Times Table Challenge and Australian Maths Competition

Pi Precision Challenge

Are you ready to uncover the hidden digits of the extraordinary mathematical constant π? All you have to do is write down the highest number of decimal places of π in just 15 minutes. As easy as pi, right?

Join us at recess on Tuesday 29 August in BP1 (10.55am - 11.10am).

Rules:

  • The challenge is open to all students from Years 7 to 12. Staff are also welcome to participate;
  • Answers in written form with clear labeling of each decimal place to ensure accuracy and ease of evaluation;
  • Only correct and accurate decimal places will be counted. Any incorrect digits will not contribute to the final score;
  • Must work individually on the challenge.

The participant with the highest number of correctly calculated decimal places will be crowned 'Pi Precision Champion' and the top three runners-up will also be acknowledged with certificates.

Year 7 Times Table Challenge

Get ready to show off your mathematical prowess and put your multiplication skills to the test.

During Mathematics classes on Wednesday 30 August, Year 7 students will have 5 minutes to complete the challenge.

Rules:

  • The challenge is open to all Year 7 students;
  • Participants must memorize their times tables from 1 to 12 before the challenge;
  • No calculators or any other aids are allowed during the challenge;
  • Students will be given a series of multiplication questions to answer within a specified time limit.

The participant with the highest number of correct answers will be declared the winner and will be acknowledged with a certificate. There will be a special award for neat presentation. The winners from each class will compete against each other on Friday 1 September at lunch time.

These are excellent opportunities to showcase your mathematical skills and have some fun during Numeracy Week. So, start memorising the decimal places of π and your times tables, and take on the challenge.

Good luck!

Australian Maths Competition

The Australian Maths Competition, through the Australian Maths Trust, is the world’s largest and longest running interschool mathematical competition with a 445-year history. It is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in student’s daily lives.

On Thursday 3 August, 125 of our Years 7 to 12 students took part in this 75-minute online competition in the Junior (Years 7–8), Intermediate (Years 9–10) and Senior (Years 11–12) divisions.

Will our students outperform the students from the other Australian and International schools? Stay tuned to find out.
