Celebrating 100 Days of Foundation!

On the morning of Wednesday the 2nd of August there was a great deal of excitement and electricity in the air. The day had finally arrived! It was the 100th day of school and all Foundation students and teachers were ready to celebrate!

At 8:55 am the bell rang and out of the school building came two little old ladies. Where were Ms Schultz and Miss Jones? The Foundation children were so confused and did not know who these two people were and where the teachers had gone. The two strangers walked over to the Foundation classes and said, 'Good morning!". Everyone soon realised that these two ladies were actually Ms Schultz and Miss Jones dressed up! There was lots of laughter in the air!

Miss Jones had a sign - 100th Day of School. Parents were encouraged to take a photo of their Foundation child in front of this sign to remember this wonderful day.

After the photo shoot, the teachers took the children back into the classroom and changed their daily readers and then the real fun began! FKJ and FSR came together as one large group into Room 1. Miss Jones then demonstrated how to make a 100 days of Foundation necklace. Each necklace was made out of 100 pieces of cereal.  Children used a tens frame to count out ten pieces of cereal. These pieces were then threaded onto a piece of string. This was done ten times. The Foundation students worked on their counting skills by skip counting up to 100 by tens.

After recess the two grades moved into FSR’s classroom and worked on a new activity. Ms Schultz showed the Foundation students how to make a 100 days of school crown. Each crown had ten sections and each section had 10 objects glued or drawn on it. Ten lots of ten is one hundred!

After a lovely picnic lunch outside in the warm Winter sun,  the children listened to a picture story book about 100 Days of school. After this story the Foundation children had a practice of the 100 Days of School song. This song would be sung at Assembly the following day in front of the whole school!

The last activity for the day was to take part in a 100 Days of School Scavenger Hunt. Students were placed into small groups, they then had to work together to try and find 100 natural objects by searching high and low through the school playground. It was wonderful to witness groups working together to achieve this goal!

We had so much fun and learnt so much in just 100 days of school!  What a great time we had celebrating our 100th day at Boroondara Park Primary. As one student exclaimed at the end of the day, “ This has been the BEST day EVER!”

We hope the children will remember this day fondly for many years to come.

Foundation Stars Weeks 4 and 5

Amelia (FSR) and Zak M. (FKJ) were the Foundation Stars in Week 4. Amelia proudly shared an impressive fluffy, pink pen as well as her personal skill, which was the front splits - which everyone was very impressed to witness! Zak M. bravely sang the Collingwood Football Club theme song in front of the audience. He sang this anthem with gusto and energy! Zak also shared some of the treasured football cards that he had been collecting throughout this term and explained what card was his favourite in his collection - A Nick Daicos card - this card was Zak’s favourite because Zak believes Nick Daicos is a REALLY good player!

In Week 5 we celebrated Jacqueline (FSR) and Adeline (FKJ) as our next Foundation Stars. At the end of the week Jacqueline shared her personal skill by playing a couple of songs on her flute. The audience was incredibly impressed with her musical talent!  Jacqueline also shared her personal timeline book, which contained many interesting photos that were taken throughout her life that she was happy to share.

Unfortunately Adeline was unable to join us for our Friday morning sharing session due to being unwell. We will look forward to seeing Adeline share her favourite presentation at the end of Week 6.
