“Making one person smile changes the world… maybe not the entire world, but their world.” by Aaliah Dhorat, Year 10, Batley Grammar School, West Yorkshire.

  • A smile is contagious, once you start you can’t stop and once your share your smile with others, smiles grow around you creating a happy atmosphere.
  • To see a smiling facial expression tells your brain to smile back and gives you a sense of happiness.
  • Smiling triggers a chemical reaction releasing neurotransmitters Dopamine and Serotonin which boost our mood. The muscle movements of smiling stimulate the amygdala (the part of  the brain that allows you to feel emotions) by releasing these neurotransmitters.
  • Smiling can relieve stress. A positive frame of mind allows you to face challenges and change as a hill rather than a mountain.
  • Smiling even if forced or unnatural, influences our feelings of positivity  and sends these positive messages to the brain.

Don’t over think it …Just do it, SMILE!
