Performing Arts
‘Tis the season for a good song and dance! The Middle Years Production of Aladdin JR was a resounding success! With sold out shows, it was obvious how much the students enjoyed sharing this timeless classic with their audiences. Congratulations to all performers and supporting staff on a highly entertaining and high standard show!
Musicals are fun and they bring together all of the arts in one comprehensive program. Music, drama and dance introduce basic performing arts, whilst the design and creation of sets, costumes and props integrate the visual arts. Rehearsing and performing dialogue develops language skills; integrating sound and lighting explores the use of technology. A musical celebrates many diverse disciplines in one area. Most importantly, presenting a musical develops social skills and encourages everybody to work together, promoting collaboration and community.
The Junior School are working hard towards the Junior Production of Seussical JR, where they will bring the creative world of Dr Seuss to life. Will Horton manage to save the Whos, who live on a speck of dust, or will the Sour Kangaroo and the Wickersham Brothers thwart his efforts? Will Gertrude manage to win the attention of Horton, and will Mayzie return to her egg or will she enjoy her vacation too much? All will be revealed on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 September, but tickets are selling fast, so get yours today!
Last week many enjoyed a Soiree, displaying the talents of our many student musicians from both the Junior and Senior Schools. It was a valuable opportunity for students to hone their solo performance skills and for the audience to simply enjoy some good music.
Senior Gala Concert – Thursday 14 September
Our senior ensembles are working hard towards the Senior Gala Concert, taking place in the BPAC Auditorium on Thursday 14 September, in the last week of term. This will be a showcase of some great music and will also provide the opportunity to thank our Year 12 musicians for all they have contributed to this College over the years.
Festival of the Arts – Friday 6 October
At the end of Week 1 of Term 4, on Friday 6 October, the College is holding a Festival of the Arts. Commencing at 5.00pm and concluding at 8.00pm, this is an opportunity to purchase some food, listen to our bands from both Junior and Senior Schools, view art works from students of all year levels, and just enjoy being together in community. The evening will commence with a performance from the Year 6 students with an item from Seussical JR and then an outdoor band performance. Come along, enjoy a relaxing evening and support both the Visual and Performing Arts.
There are plenty of events still to come this semester, so check the list, consult your diary, and plan to be entertained by our talented students.
