Mooroolbark District Interschool Sports – Winter Season

During Term 2, students in Years 5 and 6 competed in the Mooroolbark District Interschool Sports competition. On a Friday morning, students played weekly matches against seven schools in our District, with the top team in each sport progressing to the Division competition. Our big focus this year in Interschool Sports has been individual growth, with students challenged to find ways to improve each week to help their team. I was incredibly proud of the way our students displayed fairness and positivity towards their teammates, opposition and umpires. Go Oxley!

Our teams were placed in the following positions:

• Girls Netball – 3rd
• Open Netball – 2nd
• Volleyball – 1st
• Football – Equal 5th
• Soccer – 1st

The following students were awarded either Most Valuable Player (the best player on the team) or Best Team Player (the player who displayed excellence in team skills and sportsmanship).

Yarra Division and Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country

Last term, selected students in Years 3-6 competed at the Yarra Division and Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country competitions. Having finished in the top 10 at the Mooroolbark District Cross Country, these students were awarded a place in the Division Cross Country event. Racing against schools between Chirnside Park and Healesville, our students demonstrated terrific perseverance to run their best race. Students placing in the top 12 in their race would progress to the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country Competition.

At the Region competition, our students battled hard in some tricky weather conditions. Despite the weather, our students ran their very best against some top level talent. Congratulations to all students who represented Oxley at these levels!
