International Week
7 - 11 August 2023
International Week began with Assembly. Mrs Jeannette Kotzé spoke a message about the sheep and the shepherd. Year 7 German students, together with German Captain Timothy Varelas (11.15) and Mrs Tanya Robinson, invited teachers to participate in a German Tongue Twister activity. International Captain Alex Lai (12.7), and Chinese Captain Raymond Luo (11.14), shared about the significance of International Week. Year 7 Chinese students spoke about the origins of Chinese characters while Indian students Kinnari Shinde (12.8), Devanshi Agrawal (12.10), John Talapati (12.7) and Christopher John (11.15), spoke about myths surrounding India and the Indian people. International Captain Vy Phan (12.9) and her friends introduced a Vietnamese game. To end Assembly, students from the Junior School Chinese Horizons Program performed on the Guzheng, a traditional Chinese zither.
At both Senior School and Junior School Chapel, a Worship Team comprising of International and migrant students, led Praise and Worship. At the Senior Chapel, Pastor Mason Hudson from Resound Church, shared on the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and the Lost Son. At Junior Chapel, Chinese Captain Raymond Luo shared on Galatians 3:26-28,
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
A focal point of International Week was the German Gingerbread Activity. Year 7 German students had much fun decorating heart-shaped gingerbread and eating them!
Another highlight of International Week was the Chinese Shadow Puppet Incursion. All Junior School students were treated to a Chinese Shadow Puppet Show by a performing troupe. Teachers were even invited to try manoeuvring the shadow puppets, much to the delight of students. Students were also involved in a workshop where they made shadow puppets.
The international food fair has always been an enjoyable event for one and all. International students, migrant students, and students learning Chinese, from different year levels, all worked together as a team and cooked delicious food. There was a strong community spirit shared among all.
We like to celebrate multiculturalism in the Oxley community. We have staff, students, parents and grandparents who are from many different lands and nations, but we are all one in Oxley and one in Christ.
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15:7
