Year 8 Camp

Last week the Year 8 cohort were blessed with two glorious days of skiing at Mt Buller as part of Year 8 Camp 2023. Most had never skied before and demonstrated resilience and perseverance growing their snow-going skillset. Much fun was had, many memories shared, and fears overcome across the two days. Thank you very much to Mr Gavin Fox, Mr Carl Bird, Miss Aijun Zhong, Mr Rufane Smith, Miss Clare Jones, Mrs Nicole Thorpe, Mr Aaron Chan, Mrs Caitlin Salomons, Mr Andrew Capon and Miss Tivona Aloysius for their stellar service throughout the camp.

There was snow everywhere; people skiing in all directions. Students stood with their skis watching their instructor demonstrate the basics. Students copied their instructor. Some were good and some were not. Students rode the magic carpet. It was fun and exciting. Students rode the chairlift. Someone fell getting off the chairlift but got back up and skied down the hill. Students had fun on the slopes!

This was my first time trying to ski and I am glad that I could learn the ropes with my friends. Skiing was fulfilling on its own, but there were many more aspects of the camp to relish. Freshly fried donuts, snow sculpting, trivia nights, conversations on the bus, hearing roaring cheers due to the Matildas scoring a goal, running underneath your friend as they glided on the flying fox while admiring the sunset over the lake. We learnt a lot more than just skiing and now have the memories to reminisce over.

As a Year 8 student who has just returned from our ski camp, the only word I can use to describe it is Spectacular. Not only did we hang out with our friends, but we also had the incredible opportunity to ski on Mt Buller. If you can imagine it, the scenery on the mountaintop was more breathtaking than the Great Barrier Reef! Moreover, the evening activities were also remarkable. We got to watch a movie and engage in trivia with our friends. Overall, it was a fantastic time, and the precious memories I made during this trip will undoubtedly stay with me for a lifetime.
