Lexi's reflections of the Children's Program:
Welcome to OSHC for another week, this week has had some cold weather activities (Snow Person's are popular) and some spring weather activities such as flower paintings. The children are liking the it lighter skies in the mornings and warmer days.
I have had many requests for pompon making, we also wound wool with the wool winders that I have, which is a lovely calming activity for the children. Luckily I have a degree in untangling wool! (I mean a degree in Tapestry)
Our Junior Staff this term are great bakers, yesterday Anita worked together with our children to make vanilla/Lemon cake. Rowena is also going to be baking next Monday again with the children, I wonder what they will make? Last week they made gluten free chocolate non/rum/balls.
Outdoor activities have seen more girls on the soccer field, still boys too and all genders playing tennis, or making dramatic film introductions to movies, listening to music and dancing.
I have also noticed lots of adventures with the blue/green sequinned 3 back packs I found at Savers, the children love taking objects, pencils, blocks and (counterfeit) money from inside to outside and have some great imaginative games in doing so.
Apparently 3 is the magic number of children in a friendship group. Sometimes though you might feel like the third wheel. So to make sure people don't feel left out, we try and make sure there are lots of play/toys similar or the same, so that more children can share a moment.
Of course sometimes we still need to learn to take turns, we just have to ask, "Can I have a turn after you please?"
Sustainability section:
Next week we are holding our annual RSPCA cup-cake week. Normally we do this in August, although we are doing it in September this time.
The children are encouraged to make/ decorate cakes and we sell them at our mini stall at aftercare for donations. (There is an app, please no cash or coins allowed on site) https://www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au/
Also if you have any plastic bread tags to donate we are saving them to donate to Bread tags for wheelchairs Australia see: https://ozbreadtagsforwheelchairs.org.au/
I have been learning and helping out at our Bellfield Community Garden. Getting some great inspiration for our own garden. We still may have to wait until next year to make any major changes although we can make a start growing plants in pots, use the veggie beds we already have and maybe seed saving.
If you have contributions, please see myself, Lexi.
Quite areas:
Sometimes children need some relaxing time to themselves we have quite areas and calming activities to cater for them. Some spaces are for 1-2 people, others small groups.
Some of the children like to stand and chat while watching our pet jellyfish!
Some of the children like to be shown how to use a new tool, or two or three, below is a selection of wool winding bobbins, re-usable pompon makers and a crochet hook. Some children already know how to use these tools and help to show other children how to use them.
Mini House keeping section:
Next week is the last week of Term 3!
If you need to change bookings for no extra cost, now is your time!
The first week of term and last week of term we make 'fee free' as we recognise that you have work changes etc... Or maybe you are going on a family holiday.
Please email me of any changes and I can adjust your bookings for next term, term 4!
We finish term 3 on Friday the 15th September, OSHC runs for an extra hour as school finishes at 2:30! (dentist time) We come back on Monday the 2nd October.
Term 4 Information:
We will have many things going on in Term 4, like preparation for the 'Caravan of Curry' for the fair.
For this Whole School Community event, we ask parents to donate, peas, potatoes, tomatoes and rice other things to make our curries and puffs. We will also need to borrow any available rice cookers on the day please!
Rekha will be closely supervising the amount of spices, curry leaves and chilli used!
We also will be making pastry puffs/samosas leading up to the fair with the help of our children. So yes it's a big community event!
Also during October 'The Great Aussie Bird Count!' is on again! The Children were part of this last year and contributed towards our biggest 'Citizen Science' event.
Also Term 4 we look forward to Harry Potter Week!
The last week of Term 4 is party week, so lots of treats to look forward to!
Have a lovely weekend,
Kind regards
Lexi
