Opera Queensland

Last week, a few of our Music Staff attended the opening night of Opera Queensland’s Cosi fan Tutti, a comical opera by Mozart that delves into the complexities of love, loyalty, and human relationships. Clayfield College is a proud sponsor of Opera Queensland.

Our Vocal Tutor, Leanne Kenneally plays the role of ‘Despina’ the cheeky housekeeper.

Cosi fan Tutti is showing at the QPAC Playhouse until 26 August.

Combined Junior Music Festival

49 Primary School musicians from Years 4 to 6 travelled to BBC on Tuesday 15 August to join forces with BBC and Somerville House musicians for a day of workshops, culminating in a concert featuring three ensembles; Choir, Band and Strings. Each ensemble performed three works, chosen and conducted by each school. We are so proud of our students in the way they behaved and interacted with other students throughout the day. Congratulations to all students and thank you to our staff involved; Ann Slade, Tim Opstelten, Karen Gordon and Saskia Greasley.

Opus 3

We are looking forward to showcasing our Secondary School ensembles at Opus 3 this Saturday evening at BBC College Hall. Refreshments and snacks will be available from 6:15pm and the concert will commence at 7:00pm.

Did you know that 2023 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Clayfield College/BBC Musical production of West Side Story? To celebrate this, students from BBC and Clayfield College will combine to perform a West Side Story medley, featuring Year 11 soloists Arwen Abad (Clayfield College) and Lachlan Seymour (BBC).

We hope to see many families there!

Dance Troupe

Our talented dancers rehearse every Thursday morning from 7am to 8am in the Drama Room, and have been recently learning new choreography for the upcoming school musical, ‘The Little Mermaid JNR’.

They are looking forward to performing a musical preview number at the Opus 3 concert on Saturday night.

Please contact Mr Walker via awalker@clayfield.qld.edu.au, if you are interested in joining our dance troupe of experienced dancers.

Drama

Our Year 10 Drama students assisted with the technical production of Lydia Brumpton’s performance piece, based on Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House’.

The original text was reworked, reimagined, reframed to a contemporary drama which explored the loss of identity, through front and rear projections screens and symbolic sound and lighting.

We are enjoying our Tuesday afternoon rehearsals preparing for the production of ‘The Little Mermaid Jnr.'
