Foundation Miss Bennett

So many amazing things have been happening over the last couple of weeks in Foundation. They have been blowing Miss Bennett away with all of their excellent learning.

To start off the week with a bang we had SCIENCE WEEK rotations. The Foundies' favourite part of the rotations was getting to be in a group with their buddies, as well doing all the fun learning experiences about science. Some of the rotations included: Building bridges, balloon powered rockets, designing a smart farm, balloon-fueled pumps, and building the best paper plane.

In literacy, the students have finished meeting all of their 'Milo's Birthday Surprise' friends with single alphabet sounds. This week they have learnt the 'Suffix S', and have tested their knowledge by adding an s on the end of a CVC word and drawing a picture to match. They will be able to tell you that when you add a suffix s on the end of the word it means 'more than one of something'.

In maths, the Foundies have begun learning about 'groups of'. They loved using the mini whiteboards and counters to help with their knowledge and do a 'whisper and shout' when they had their answer.

‘Possum Magic’ - Text Based Unit

This week we finished our text based unit on ‘Possum Magic’. During this unit the students did some background knowledge building and looked at Australian states and capitals. They brainstormed different kinds of Australian foods. The students learnt about proper nouns and they focused on building simple sentences. We also brought our text to life and enjoyed tasting some minties, mini pavlova, ANZAC biscuits and Vegemite!

 Grade 1-2 Miss Hart

Wow! What a week we have had. This week it is Science Week - the students got to participate in a range of science experiments on Monday that centred around the theme ‘Innovation: Powering Future Industries. Students rotated through activities in multi-age groups involving themselves in activities and experiments like:

Science Week

Bridge Builders Bonanza - where we learnt to design, hypothesise and test our materials and bridge creations.Design a Smart Farm - where students learnt to use design and materials for purpose.Make a Water Pump - where students learnt to understand that the water pump works because gases move from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas, energy is transferred within the system, and forces are unbalanced. Make a BETTER Paper Plane - where students gained confidence in designing, building, testing and improving designs.Balloon Powered Rockets - where students tested out and learnt that potential energy is stored in the balloon, and this is released to create kinetic energy.

Here are some of Grade 1-2 Hart’s favourite experiments:

Madeline - Make a Better Paper Plane.

Edith - Balloon Powered Rockets.

Sophie - Make a Water Pump.

Addie - Bridge Builder's Bonanza and Make a Better Paper Plane.

Oonagh - Make a Water Pump.Marla - Bridge Builder's Bonanza.

Liam - Balloon Powered Rockets.

Grade 3-4 Mrs Crosbie

3/4 Crosbie have been busily beginning preparations for the upcoming school production. This week we finalised our script and ran auditions for the major speaking parts. Every member of our class has a speaking line and it's so wonderful that every person in our class wanted a part in our play.  The scripts have been handed out and we are beginning to practice our lines.

We have also begun rehearsing our dances. We have some exciting songs and some tricky dance moves to learn but everyone is extremely excited.

We are looking forward to the next few weeks of practicing and we can't wait to perform for all our family and friends.
