On Wednesday 23rd August, nine year six students participated in the Brighton Secondary debate competition. We split into 3 teams of 3 and had to prepare for 5 arguments over the course of 3 weeks.

Some of the topics were learning new languages, watching reality TV and the effect of violent video games. Our teams had to compete against other schools in a series of debates to get into the final.

Overall it was a really enjoyable experience and we all learnt a lot. We spent most of the day watching other debates and taking notes to improve for next time we compete in a debating competition.

It was good to look at the faces of the accomplished debaters. We were all good at sports and it was a fun learning experience. A special thank you to Mr Mansfield for helping us on the day and a big thank you to Mrs Preston for organising the day.

Glen Eira College Production - Matilda

On Monday the 21st of August the Year 6s walked to Glen Eira Secondary College to watch their production Matilda the Musical.

I thought this was one of the best youth plays that I’ve been to. The students at Glen Eira were so confident and fantastic and at times I thought that I was going to a professional one in the city! They really act like the characters from Matilda. I was fascinated by how they put so much emotion into each word. I could just see how much time was put into this production. Thank you so much Glen Eira for inviting us to your fabulous production. – Oliver S (6A)

Year 2 Excursion to Rippon Lea House and Gardens

On Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd of August the Year 2s went to Rippon Lea Estate to learn about how things have changed over time. We did some really cool activities and learned a lot about how people lived years ago. We explored the grounds in a ‘Creature Catcher’ scavenger hunt, had a tour of the old mansion, played some games and even acted as servants.

Everyone had an excellent time there, which was made possible with the support of our wonderful parent helpers. Thank you!

Whole School Mad Science Incursion

To help us celebrate National Science Week last week, Mad About Science delivered two performances of their ‘Mad Science’ show on Friday 18th August. Students were highly engaged with the show and even got to interact by being part of the experiences. From toilet paper to static electricity to floating ping pong balls and fire – we learned a lot!
