The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.

As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,

animals, plants and waterways.

We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.

Dear Families,

THIRD STRIKE DAY PLANNED FOR WEDNESDAY 19TH AUGUST

Wednesday 19th August is still a scheduled strike day at this stage. On August 10th the State Government made a revised offer. Members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) are to vote to accept or reject this offer. Keep Wednesday 19th August on your calendar as a scheduled strike day at this stage. The membership vote will determine whether stop work goes ahead or not. The voting is open to AEU members through until Monday morning (17/8). Hopefully I will be able to share more information on Monday afternoon. Will keep everyone posted!

COMPLAINT FROM ONE OF OUR NEIGHBOURS REGARDING PARENTS PARKING IN THEIR DRIVEWAYS

Hi,

I came home tonight (Wednesday 12 August) around 3:30pm to our house in Worthing Road and someone had parked across our driveway. I was unable to get into my driveway. I was unable to stop to take a photo as I was driving and other cars were parked in the no stopping area diagonally opposite our house.

Can you please remind your community to park legally for school drop off and pickup.

I’ll be reporting this to the council as well so that they can enforce the parking restrictions.  Regards Andrew

I kindly ask that all families refrain from parking across or blocking our neighbours’ driveways during school drop-off and pick-up times. Please ensure this message is also shared with partners, grandparents and any other family members or carers who assist with bringing children to and from school. Keeping driveways clear is important to ensure our neighbours can safely and easily access their homes and properties, and it also helps us maintain positive and respectful relationships with our local community. We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and consideration.

CELEBRATING PRINCIPALS’ DAY

Principal's Day provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the privilege of leading such an incredible school community. While the role of Principal is both rewarding and diverse, it is certainly not one that can be undertaken alone.

I am fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team of dedicated teachers, education support staff, administration staff, specialist teachers, school council members, our Parents and Friends Committee, and our wonderful families, all of whom contribute every day to making Moorabbin Primary School the welcoming, inclusive and thriving place that it is. The success of our school is built on the collective efforts of people who consistently place the needs of our students at the centre of everything they do. I sincerely thank every member of our staff for their professionalism, commitment and unwavering dedication to providing the very best opportunities for our children.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding work of our Assistant Principal, Mr Ian Corrigan. Ian's contribution to Moorabbin Primary School extends far beyond the classroom and is integral to the smooth operation of our school each and every day. He oversees the complex task of developing the school's timetable, coordinates a wide range of whole-school programs, and works tirelessly alongside staff and families to support the wellbeing, engagement and success of our students.

His calm, thoughtful and student-centred approach, together with his genuine care for our community, ensures that students and families receive the support they need to flourish. I am incredibly grateful for Ian's partnership, professionalism and unwavering commitment to our school, and I thank him for the significant role he plays in making Moorabbin Primary School such a positive place to learn and work.

BOOK WEEK INCURSION, SOMETHING SPECIAL AND DRESS UP ON THURSDAY 20TH AUGUST: GOLD COIN DONATION

We ask that students bring a gold coin donation, with all money raised going towards Story Dogs, supporting their wonderful work in helping children develop their reading skills and confidence.

Students and staff are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character, this is just a fun day, and we will not be raising any funds for this event. Again, it is optional for students to dress up. At assembly we will show case all the wonderful costumes with a year level parade at 2.45pm-3.30pm.

Throughout Book Week (17th-21st of August), our Literacy Leaders will be running a range of activities for students. They will also be promoting the dress-up day and Book Week activities at assembly at the beginning of next term. The incursion will be held on Thursday 20th August.

Session times are as follows both sessions will be held in the school Gym:

  • Foundation – Year 3: 9:30am

  • Year 4 – Year 6: 11:20am

Here is a link to the dance video if you are interested in showing your child/ren before the performance and some very basic information about the performances that the students will be part of in their allocated sessions.

ENROLMENTS FOR 2027 AND ARE YOU LEAVING THE MPS COMMUNITY

As we begin planning for the 2027 school year, we kindly ask families who are considering leaving our school community to please notify the Office as early as possible. We understand that family circumstances and plans can change, and we appreciate that some decisions may not yet be final. However, having early and accurate information about anticipated enrolment changes helps us plan effectively and ensure we are prepared to support our students and families.

Student enrolment numbers are particularly important at this time of year as the School Leadership Team begins workforce planning for the year ahead. Enrolment numbers directly inform staffing requirements, including the number of teachers and support staff the school is able to retain. Early notification of changes assists us in making responsible staffing decisions and, where possible, avoiding unnecessary disruption to our students and staff. We greatly appreciate families keeping us informed as soon as they are able.

WORKING BEE SATURDAY 8TH AUGUST

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and contributed to our recent Working Bee. It was wonderful to see so many families of our school community giving up their time to work together and make a positive difference to our school grounds. Your enthusiasm, energy and willingness to “get stuck in” were truly appreciated.

Working Bees are such a wonderful reflection of the strength of our school community, and the results of everyone’s hard work are already making a difference. Whether you spent a few hours gardening, cleaning, moving, organising or simply lending a helping hand, every contribution mattered. Thank you for continuing to support our school and for helping make it such a welcoming and vibrant place for our students.

RECYCLING PROGRAM

Our wonderful student Flynn Abell from 3M assisted in the design of our recycling program, and using the Canva app created the bin signs. He helps check the yellow bin and changeover of the plastic bags weekly. Each week Flynn and his father Sean (who is our wonderful school council president), take the cans, bottles, juice boxes to the Cheltenham tip where Flynn sorts them along a conveyer belt. They are then counted and 10cents for each container deposited into the school's account. Last week alone we raised over $30, 300+ donated containers, and over the first half of this year we have raised over $100 already (from more than 100 containers recycled)!
