Koala Classroom

Welcome to the Koala Class!
Literacy
To begin the term, K–1 students are exploring the imaginative text Iggy Peck, Architect. Through shared reading, discussion and writing activities, students will make and check predictions, explore story structure, and identify how illustrations, rhyme and descriptive language entertain the reader. They will also develop their vocabulary and sentence writing skills by using nouns and verbs to describe events and create their own imaginative bridge designs.
Maths
In Mathematics this fortnight, K–1 students will be building important early number and measurement skills. Early Stage 1 students will explore addition and subtraction with numbers to 10 using hands-on materials, drawings, number stories, ten-frames and number tracks to find totals, take away and compare amounts. Stage 1 students will focus on measuring length and area using informal units such as paperclips, blocks and unifix cubes, helping them compare, measure and describe objects in practical classroom contexts.
