Principal's report

The most recent addition to the wonderful new STEAM centre is the now very well equipped IT room, for students studying Information Technology at senior school and in VET. The VET course is a Cert III and students can complete this over two years, starting in year 10. At the other end of the new landscaped courtyard is the Food Technology Commercial kitchen, a long awaited facility which will enable us to run Cookery as a Cert III starting in 2027. Again, this is for students wishing to do VET and they can also commence studies in this area at Year 10. The VET portal opens next week and we advise students to log on soon to get the subjects of their choice. Please see Ms Yurtsever in the Careers Office for further information.
The STEAM centre has elevated the learning for all students. It's quite incredible to see first hand how upgraded facilities and new classrooms contribute to the wellbeing and learning of students. As I walked through classes this morning, I felt immense pride in seeing our students so engaged, from the MV indoor program, to the students in Year 10 Psychology engaging with some research, students in Art exploring new technologies and learnings, and senior Biology students focussed on tasks in Unit 2. I look forward to the day in Term 4 when we can announce the grand opening of the whole build and landscaped courtyard and invite all of our families in to celebrate.
A reminder to families that Monday 17th August is a PPD day for teachers and is student free. Teachers have this opportunity one day a year to work on their own planning and for us this term, the focus is really on ensuring all assessment tasks are met, all classwork is completed, and the students are being prepared for the end of the year and a progression to the next year.
For our Year 12 seniors, they are now counting the weeks until they graduate. I will be announcing the dates for the Year 12 graduation in the next few days so keep an eye on Compass for information so that you can RSVP. We hope to see you all there - it is one of my highlights of the year.
Thank you to the families of our junior students who came in for the Student and Parent conferences earlier this term - always a great success and a terrific opportunity for our families to walk inside our school.
As usual, the term will end with Parent/Teacher interviews in a hybrid model of one evening online and one morning onsite. We hope to see many of you there and if you can't attend in those times, please make arrangements for a separate time.
In times when we often experience instability and change, I am delighted to confirm that I will be continuing in my role as principal after my initial contract. It's hard to believe I have been here for almost five years, and I look forward to ongoing work with our staff, students, and community as we continue the transformation of JFC.
Enjoy reading about the terrific experiences and achievements of our students in this newsletter!
