Year 3/4 Narrative Writing

Over the last few weeks, Year 3/4 students have been writing narratives based on the theme “An Unlikely Friendship,” inspired by our class text, Charlotte’s Web. Alongside following the writer’s process, students have been exploring and incorporating a range of writing techniques to make their narratives engaging and descriptive.

Students have been developing their use of “show, don’t tell,” using the five senses to create vivid settings, writing consistently in third person, experimenting with a range of speech tags beyond “said,” and showing a character’s feelings and personality through their actions and dialogue rather than simply telling the reader. They have also been incorporating similes, metaphors and personification to bring their writing to life.
