A note from Mr Jackson

Working Bee Invitation: This Friday Night 3:45pm to 5:45pm on Friday 13 March
We are looking to have some hands to help out on Friday afternoon for a Working Bee. For those eager to contribute, we ask you to sign in at the table outside the staffroom. We will have several teams working a range of tasks. While the list is long, the tasks we get too will depend on the numbers of helpers that we have.
1. Blowing Team - we are always eager to ensure that our yard is clear of nuts, mulch and leaves. We’ll start at the top of the gates and blow down the pathways.
2. Planting - a team of planters will be asked to clear the weeds, freshen up the soil and plant a range of seedlings in the triangular zone at the base of the newly installed ramps in the top playground.
3. Clearing Drains - a number of pits need clearing after recent rains. Bring along some gloves or use the ones provided.
4. Painting of Edge Steps - we are eager for one or two people to take responsibility for refreshing the yellow edges of the steps that lead to the 3/4 Learning Area as well as some of the timber edges.
5. Replacement of Rotten Timbers - these timbers that are lying along the northern boundary are ready for replacement.
A reminder to parents who attend that staff are unable to provide supervision of children outside of 3:45pm. I encourage parents to maintain a close eye on their children.
For those who are able to stay until ‘tools down’ at 5:45pm you are most welcome to enjoy a sausage, a small thankyou for a generous gift of time … and energy.
REMINDER: Assembly Update
2:45pm on Friday 13 March
Come and join the celebrations at the assembly on Friday 13 March at 2:45pm. There will be no assembly on Monday 16 March due to the Yrs3-6 Athletics Carnival. We look forward to returning to our Monday morning assemblies at 9:00am on Monday 23 March.
NAPLAN Update
Begun on Wednesday 11 March
Many would have heard or read about the difficulties that students experienced across Australia in the administration of the NAPLAN Assessments on Wednesday. While students in Year 5 at Rosanna Primary were disrupted for a short period, they were able to complete the Writing assessment as planned. We were fortunate to have our technician present and were grateful to both students and staff for their patience and ability to resolve the hurdles that they faced.
The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has provided a statement below.
As you may have been made aware, NAPLAN testing was impacted this morning by technical issues with the national assessment platform. ACARA, the national body that oversees testing, has confirmed that testing resumed shortly after the initial incident.
ACARA recognises the significant impact to students disrupted during their NAPLAN writing assessments on Wednesday, and for that we apologise unreservedly.
Schools have been informed to continue NAPLAN testing as per their planned test schedules. ACARA will continue to work closely with states and territories to support students to complete their NAPLAN tests.
Measures are in place to ensure students are not disadvantaged as a result of this technical issue.
Birding Club List
1:30pm Thursday 26 March
Our most recent adventure took a large group of students to Rosanna Parklands over lunch on Tuesday 10 March. Our list included, 1 butcherbird which had just caught a lizard, 1 magpie lark (female), 2 magpies, 5 noisy minors, 2 rainbow lorikeets and 2 little ravens. A reminder to students who wish to join us on the next Birding Club outing on Thursday 26 March, to ensure they have recording their interest at the office. Students are required to have the Local Excursion Consent completed.
We are building a school set of binoculars to share on our outings. If parents have a pair of binoculars that are not used, we would love to receive any donations! I can promise you that they will be well used by our growing ornithologists!
School Annual Report Presentation & School Council
7:00pm on Monday 16 March
The Annual Report is shared with the wider community on Monday evening prior to the initial meeting of the School Council. This is a public meeting and is an opportunity for parents to hear a little bit about 2025 and the springboard into 2026. The document will be shared on the website later next week to ensure people have an opportunity to read it.
At 7:30pm the first School Council meeting for 2026 will begin. Late last week the election of the 2026 team were announced. I want to thank the newly elected members for their willingness to contribute to the school in this way. The most recently elected members are; Matthew Ferrantino, Lyndal Eakins, Eilis Kelly, James Kirsop and Kristen Munro.
Possible Industrial Action
Tuesday 24 March
The VGSA is an industrial agreement that sets the pay, working conditions, and rules for staff working in Victorian government schools. Presently, it is being negotiated between the government and staff of government schools. The Australian Education Union have foreshadowed the possibility of industrial action on Tuesday 24 March. Once this action is confirmed I look forward to informing parents and our wider community about the impact that such action will have on Rosanna Primary School.
ParentED: Regulation Coaching
Wednesday 25 March 7:00pm
All are welcome to join the initial ParentED forum on Wednesday 25 March in Chandler Hall. Our termly gathering is a chance for the school to collaborate with parents to provide access to experts in a range of areas.
This term we are exploring the importance of regulation coaching.
If you have wondered how to improve your child's emotional understanding and intelligence and to better support their emotional regulation, come along to a parent information evening presented by Joan Lauricella, a high experienced Family Support Worker from HealthAbility. Joan will present a practical hour-long session on positive parenting strategies based on evidence-based emotion coaching strategies. She will present strategies that can be practiced immediately at home with your children.
A reminder to book in your attendance by using the link below

Pi Day
Friday 13 March
It’s the third month of the year, and close to the 14th day of the month. Together the initials reflect pi (3.14). We are excited that a small group of mathematicians will bend their brains around a range of extra ordinary questions at Viewbank Secondary College. It is a great chance for our students to collaborate with a small number of neighbouring primary schools and be challenged in new and exciting ways. We look forward to hearing of their experiences at the assembly.
Yrs 3-6 Athletics Carnival
Monday 16 March
Students will turn blue, golden, green and red on Monday as they participate in the annual Athletics Carnival. This is an important event that promotes the health and wellbeing of our students. Participating in these events encourages students to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle as they grow. The experience also supports students’ mental wellbeing by boosting confidence, reducing stress, and creating a sense of enjoyment through physical activity. We are all looking forward to the day and the celebration of health.
Inclusion Day
Thursday 19 March
Next Week Australia celebrates Harmony Week, a celebration of cultural diversity and inclusiveness in Australia. Harmony Day is a day that recognises and values the many different cultures, languages, and backgrounds that make up Australian society. The day coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a powerful reminder of the need to stand up against racism and division.
This year we embrace the importance of Inclusion, a key value for our whole community. Thursday 19 March will mark Inclusion Day at Rosanna Primary. Students are invited to wear blue and will be participating in a range of activities celebrating the diversity within our community and the richness that it brings.
Ride to School Day
Friday 20 March
This is an annual opportunity to encourage students to stay healthy and adopt an active routine to coming to school. Keep an eye on Compass to hear about more!
