Wellbeing Matters

Holiday Self-Care for Students & Families
As the holidays approach, it’s a great time to slow down, recharge, and focus on wellbeing—for both students and parents. School holidays don’t need to be busy or expensive to be meaningful. Simple, low-cost activities can make a big difference.
Easy, low-cost self-care ideas:
- Go for a walk, bike ride, or picnic at a local park
- Visit your local library for books, games, or holiday programs
- Have a family movie or board game night at home
- Get creative with drawing, craft, or baking together
- Spend time outdoors—gardening, kicking a ball, or exploring nature
Looking after mental health:Holidays can be a mix of fun and challenge. Keeping a loose routine, staying connected with others, and taking time to rest can help everyone feel more balanced. If you or your child need extra support, services like Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) and Lifeline (13 11 14) are available 24/7.
Holiday jobs & life skills:The break is also a great opportunity for children to build independence and responsibility. Simple “holiday jobs” might include:
- Helping with cooking or planning a meal
- Gardening or yard work
- Organising their room or toys
- Earning pocket money through small chores
These experiences build confidence and contribute to a sense of belonging at home.
Wishing all our families a safe, restful, and happy holiday period.
