Show Team Head to Sydney Royal Easter Show

The Boorowa Central School Show Team is set to represent the school and wider community at the upcoming Sydney Royal Easter Show, with 14 students and 2 staff travelling to Sydney this weekend.

Students will depart on Sunday 29 with five steers that have been prepared over many months, before returning home on Friday. This marks a significant milestone for the school, as it is the first time Boorowa Central School has exhibited at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The event is one of the most prestigious agricultural competitions in Australia and provides an outstanding opportunity for students to compete against schools and exhibitors from across the state.

The team will compete in the purebred steer competition, including the schools section. Representing the school will be Master Chief and Sergeant Mudcake, both Limousin steers bred by Sarana Limousins, Javid Colonel from Javid Square Meaters, Belview Captain from Belview Simmentals & Fleckviehs, and Hartfield Winx from Hartfield Simmentals.

Preparation for an event of this scale requires a high level of commitment from students. Over recent months, students have been involved in all aspects of preparing their cattle, including feeding, leading, washing and presentation. The week of the show will involve early starts and late finishes as students continue caring for the animals and completing final preparations ahead of competition, further developing their confidence, responsibility and livestock handling skills.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show represents a major stage for the school to compete on and is the culmination of months of hard work. In addition to the show team, a further 50 students will travel to Sydney next Thursday, providing more students with the opportunity to experience the show.

The school would like to sincerely thank the many supporters who have made this opportunity possible. Without their generous support, participation at an event of this scale would not be achievable. We extend our gratitude to Bendigo Bank, Boorowa Rotary Club, Boorowa Lions Club, Flemings Rural, Springwaters Poll Dorset and Angus, Horne Shearing, C. Merriman and Family, and Delta Livestock and Property for their ongoing commitment to supporting our students, our show team and the agricultural program at Boorowa Central School.

The school community wishes the team the very best as they prepare to represent Boorowa Central School on this significant stage at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Visual Arts

Monday 16th March, our Stage 5 Visual Arts students had a jam packed day in Young appreciating the Hilltops Off the Beaten Track Art and Cultural Trail.

The day began at Murringo Barracks, where artist Therese Crowe opened her gallery and studio showing us her impressive portrait works. She spoke with students about her process from sitting to finishing the pieces, and how she includes meaningful objects to represent each sitter.

Students then visited Bradley Fine Arts, where Penelope introduced them to a range of impressive works, including works by Salvador Dalí and David Bromley and other contemporary artists.

At Studio One above the Southern Cross Cinema, students were excited to see some of their own artworks displayed as part of the Youth in the Arts: Artistic Aspirations exhibition. The group enjoyed some hot chips for lunch then visited the Young Town Hall to view the Village Schools Collaborative Art Exhibition and the 18th Annual Lambing Flats Sculpture and Big Art exhibition. It was a fantastic day of inspiration and learning. We are very grateful to the artists, galleries and organisers who generously shared their time and knowledge with our students.

Athletics Carnival

Boorowa Central School held its annual Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 25 March, and what a fantastic day it was! With clear skies and beautiful weather setting the scene, students and staff enjoyed a full day of activity, competition, and school spirit.

Participation levels were outstanding across all events, with students eagerly taking part in track and field activities. From sprints and relays to long jump and shot put, it was wonderful to see so many students stepping out of their comfort zones, supporting one another, and giving their best effort.

A highlight of the day was the positive behaviour displayed by all students. Their enthusiasm, encouragement of peers, and respectful conduct contributed to a smooth and enjoyable carnival for everyone involved. Staff were incredibly proud of the way students represented themselves and the school throughout the day.

Ribbons, along with House and Age Champion awards, will be presented in Term 2. We look forward to recognising the achievements and efforts of our students.

A big thank you to all staff, students, and volunteers who helped make the day run so seamlessly.

Western Primary athletics will be held Friday 18th September and the Western Secondary Athletics will be held on Friday 31st July in Dubbo. Advancers to these carnivals will be notified early Term 2.

Harmony Day Celebrations at Boorowa Central School

On Tuesday, 24th March, Boorowa Central School came together to celebrate Harmony Day in a vibrant and meaningful way! Students and staff wore bright orange accessories to show their support for the rich cultural diversity that makes our school community so special.

Our kindness continued with a gold coin donation drive, with all proceeds going to our local St Vincent de Paul charity. It’s wonderful to see our students supporting and embracing the diversity of our wider community.

A big thank you to SRC students Annabelle Grogan, Belinda Lawler, and Ivy Taylor, who delivered an engaging presentation that helped us all reflect on the importance of harmony and inclusion.

In continuation of Harmony Week celebrations we are making a Paper Hands Tree. Every student from K-12 will decorate a paper hand with images representing their culture—flags, foods, symbols, and more. These beautiful hands will be assembled into a display in the secondary double-story building, with a special spot soon to be decided for the infants and primary areas. This living artwork will be a wonderful reminder of just how diverse and exciting our school community is!

Harmony Day is all about celebrating our differences and coming together as one—thank you to everyone at Boorowa Central for making it such a special occasion!

LOTE

Our Year 7 students are currently learning German for their 100 hour LOTE course (Languages Other than English). They have spent Term 1 learning basic vocabulary for discussing personal information including name, age, birthday,  family and pets, and likes and dislikes. Their project for the end of term was to use their laptops to create a beautifully designed poster on Canva, using key vocabulary to present key information about themselves. As you can see in the photo, the Year 7s have done a brilliant job, and should be very proud of their efforts. Sehr gut, Klasse Sieben!
