Infants and Primary

Infants
There is lots of action happening in the last couple of weeks of term, and everyone is getting excited about these events. Our Athletics Carnival on Wednesday was a big highlight of the term, with a great day of racing, jumping, throwing and good fun. Thank you to all our families and friends who were able to be there on the day to cheer and join in the fun! In preparation for this, we have been practicing our athletic skills with Mona from Gecko Sports. Each week we have been practicing and refining different skills related to throwing, running and jumping and we are really improving. Infants classes have been joining together for most of these sessions and it has been wonderful to have the older students in Year 2 demonstrating the skills and encouraging their younger peers.
Excitement is building in the Infants block in the lead up to Easter. We’ve been getting our creative hats on in preparation for our Boorowa Easter Hat Parade, which is happening on Thursday 2 April at 10.00am at the Boorowa Recreation Ground (the last day of term). This is such a lovely event that combines children from the BEE Centre with students from our school and St Josephs, making it inclusive of all Boorowa families. We hope many family and friends are able to come down to the cricket ground to take part in the fun.
This fortnight we have been welcoming families with students starting school next year to join us for ‘Kindy 2027 Kickstart Tours’. We have had a great response with many new and current families visiting our school and taking a tour with Mr Jones and our Primary Captains to see our wonderful school in action. Thank you to Digby, Patch, Billy and Alice for being exceptional leaders and role models during these tours.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten has a special class friend called ‘Kookie’ the Kookaburra. He and his little brother live in the classroom and keep an eye on how our class is travelling and if needed, they fly down for a cuddle with a classmate. Each Friday, Kookie chooses to go home for a weekend of adventures with a classmate who has had a great week of learning and has been a great role model for the rest of the class. So far Kookie has been lucky enough to have many bike and buggy rides, join in on a birthday party, have fun at the park and pool and snuggle in to special beds his friends have made him.
This week we have enjoyed reading Aaron Blabey’s book ‘Pig the Pug’, as well as others from the series. We have all been entertained by Pig’s cheeky, grubby, rude, mischievous and untruthful adventures with Trevor, but have found that in the end, Pig and Trevor remain good friends. Students have begun experimenting with writing short sentences about Pig and identifying the subject and the verb, eg. Pig eats. Very clever learning in Kindergarten!
In Mathematics, Kindergarten have been learning all about measurement. We practiced ‘hefting’ things to find out items that have a heavier, lighter or about the same mass as our lunchboxes. Students had fun using their ‘see-saw’ arms to demonstrate this. We are continuing to focus on number skills, including forming our numerals correctly, counting sequences and finding all the little numbers that make bigger numbers.
Another recent highlight is spending time with our Buddies. We have enjoyed them reading to us and playing games with us, and it is fantastic to see these special relationships continuing to grow. The leadership and positive role modelling of our older students is greatly valued.
Primary
The past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy and exciting for our primary students! Our sporting calendar has kicked off in full swing, with plenty of action to start the year.
In the classrooms, the buzz is all about our new literacy routines. Every morning, our students have been enthusiastically engaging with Heggerty lessons as part of our Heggerty Heroes program across primary. The progress we’re seeing is fantastic!
PSSA Knockouts: Exciting Competitions Ahead
Next term is set to be a big one for sport at Boorowa Central School. Our tennis knockout team will compete in Cowra on Wednesday, 1st April, and our cricket knockout team will head to Bathurst on Thursday, 7th May. We’re also looking forward to knockout events in soccer, netball, and Rugby League, which are mainly for Stage 3 students, with occasional opportunities for Year 4. These competitions are fantastic opportunities for our students to represent our school, show teamwork, and enjoy friendly competition.
The Resilience Project: Building Strength and Wellbeing
The Resilience Project remains a major focus in K-6 classrooms. Students are participating in daily GEM (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness) chats and weekly lessons, helping them build important social and emotional skills. We encourage families to continue these GEM chats at home to further support resilience and wellbeing. See below for some information on ways to bring these valuable conversations into your daily routines.
Finally, a big congratulations to our Primary Sports Captains for this year:
Green House: Tyler Joyce and Beau Taylor
Blue House: Coby Halls and Tommy Ford
Well done, boys! We are excited to see your leadership on and off the field.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together for a fantastic year ahead.
