Principals Report

Ms Stephanie Scott

Welcome to our first newsletter for the term! As I write, I am nervously looking at the weather and hoping that it will stay fine for our athletics carnival today! All going well we will be publicising the photos and results soon. A special feature this year will be the Jackson Clarke Memorial Sprint. Jackson competed at state last year for the 100 metres, and was also renowned for his enthusiasm and school spirit at all the sport carnivals. Thank you Yr 12, Mrs Jones and Mr Cook for making this special event possible. We will also be thinking of Jackson and his family tomorrow on what would have been Jackson's 18th birthday.

I know our wonderful results have already been publicised, but I wanted to share the extract below from Janelle Saffin. It is a wonderful acknowledgement of the teaching and learning at THS.

TENTERFIELD HIGH SCHOOL'S HIGHER SCHOOL CERTIFICATE SUCCESS

Ms JANELLE SAFFIN (Lismore)—Tenterfield High School has received a letter of congratulations from the Secretary of Education for outstanding improvement in the 2023 Higher School Certificate results. This is the second time in three years that such a departmental commendation has been made. Higher School Certificate graduates, their families, Tenterfield High Principal Stephanie Scott and her teaching staff can be extremely proud of this academic achievement. As Ms Scott told The Tenterfield Star, only a handful of schools across the state receive these letters, and the results speak volumes for what they offer at the school. As the Secretary noted, the results are a collective effort and a result of the culture of high expectations and quality relationships at the school, the individual support offered to students, and the professional development and expertise of teachers. Tenterfield High has also achieved excellent growth in reading and numeracy in the junior years for the past two years. Reading growth is significantly above the State average. The whole school reading program across Years 7 to 10 in every English lesson, as well as individual support for students who require it, has supported this growth. Take a bow Tenterfield High.

This term has seen some changes to the school canteen. In the holidays the P&C passed a motion to hand the running of the canteen back to the school. This is in keeping with what the majority of NSW schools are doing and will now allow the P&C to focus more on fundraising activities and other support for the school.  I would like to thank the P&C for the considerable work that they have put into running the canteen over many years.  Mrs Kim Rhodes remains the canteen manager and as we have advertised eftpos has now been introduced. We also look forward to very shortly introducing an online ordering platform via the sentral parent portal. Please look out for news on this.

As you will see this is a bumper issue as we catch up on what was a very busy end of term one! Please enjoy all of the photos, news and success of our wonderful school!
