CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to create a character study.

VOCABULARY

Character study: The analysis of the internal and external traits of a character in a story.

Internal traits: Personality characteristics that can be inferred through the thoughts, feelings, actions and dialogue of a character.

External traits: Describe the character’s appearance such as their hairstyle, clothing, facial expressions and possessions.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Using a fiction text from your satchel, or a book you have at home, choose a character and write down their external traits (what they look like) and their internal traits (personality characteristics). Does their appearance give any clues to their personality?
