Student Leadership

What’s Been On For The Student Leadership Team?!

The Youth Leadership Conference in March that saw 12 Captains and Vice Captains from our Leadership Team be inspired and encourage to ‘take on the world’. I am always so proud of taking our Sunbury College Team out, the way they represent the school and community is always outstanding!

In Sustainability News we have begun the Container Deposit Scheme initiative in the school and have so far raised $25.90. The Leadership Team has decided to spend the funds on a free sausage sizzle at school for all students. We may have a way to go to get that sausage sizzle but every container we collect is one less that goes to Landfill and that’s the REAL winner! Other sustainability efforts include Student Leaders seeking a Sustainability Club for projects around the school that would work on savings energy around the school, a recycling bin initiative, compost bins to ‘feed’ our veggie garden, and maybe even a chicken coop! Stay tuned!

The Climate Change Education Forum was held on the 1st of May and was an incredible day for four keen students. I marvelled at the intelligence of Oliver Almond, Austyn Edwards, Sienna Tonkin and Michaela Bench. Their ideas and the way they articulated issues and facts around climate change and offered solutions just blew my mind. Once again, I was incredibly proud and can’t wait until these young Leaders are Leading our country and beyond!

We also had a big Open Night where much of our Leadership Team and other students around the school took great pride and with the upmost respect showed parents and future students around the school and/or represented their subjects with enthusiasm.

Anzac Day Ceremony had most of the Team speaking at the event and everyone did any amazing job! It’s big deal to speak in front of the school on a stage for such a big event, but they all did it with respect, courage, and endeavour.

Ongoing Tasks also include:

  • Regular Team Meetings.
  • Initiatives like Improving the Year 12 Space and Experiences.
  • WHR Data Collection with Mr. Monteleone
  • Survey’s to gain understandings of how better to serve the Student Body
  • Music Initiatives and events
  • Sports initiative and events
  • Supporting the Running of Assemblies with presenting Welcome To Country and other announcements and introductions.
  • Speaking at Teacher Briefings to give important messages and communication to Teachers.

It’s wonderful to see how much the Leadership Team in all Captaincy areas have achieved so far and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year entails.
