Year 7 and 8

A peek into the student lives of our Year 7 and 8 students this term

As we approach the midpoint of the term, we’d like to recognise and celebrate our students’ achievements. At the commencement of Term 2, we celebrated 100% Attendance, high Work Habit Ratings and the great work being done across Junior School.

Congratulations to all students who achieved improved Work Habit Ratings during the recent cycle and to students who have maintained a high result. Your hard work, diligence and commitment to learning are commendable. And well done to all students who achieved 100% attendance during Term 1, this is a magnificent achievement. Keep up the fantastic work!

We encourage all students to continue to engage actively in their studies, seek support when needed and explore new opportunities for growth and learning.

This term, students have thoroughly enjoyed a range of educational activities, incursions and excursions, including Robotics Club, Hume Global Learning Centre visits, learnings on Goal Setting & Careers, experiments in Science, Japanese Incursion and the inaugural Athletics Carnival.

Many thanks to teaching staff and education support for their ongoing work for our students.

With numerous opportunities to represent Sunbury College in Interschool Sport, students have shown commitment and endeavour through trials and training, in preparation for competition day. Well done to all students for representing our College in a positive and enthusiastic manner!

We look forward to celebrating more successes and achievements as we continue our journey through the term.

Japanese Taiko Workshop - Year 7

Hello there, I’m Jax.  I’m here to talk about our amazing cultural experience with the Taiko drums or 太鼓 in Japanese in kanji.  Brought to us by the amazing Ayako-san.

We started off by being told the history of Taiko, like how it’s made out of wood and where it originated, also how it’s partly made out of cow skin. We then went to play the drums with pretty simple hits which then escalated to posing and “yelling” after hitting the drums.

Personally, my second favorite part was us making our own hits while some people did unique things, while some people just did one hit and then a pose or “yell”.  My friends and I in my group did it for as long as we possibly could.

Wait, what was my favorite part?  Well at the end, six of us or 六 in Japanese, we got to hit this big Taiko drum 3 times.  Of course I got the chance.  I was the last one and trust me, this thing was loud!  I hit it as hard as I could like Bang! BANG! BANG!

Overall it was an amazing experience!

Big thanks to Koyama Sensei and Ayako-san.

Thank you for reading this article.
