Curriculum Day

Friday 31st May is the next Curriculum Day. Students do not attend school on this day.

Their Care will offer child care on the day.

Prep enrolments for 2025

Prep enrolments for 2025 are being accepted and should be submitted by the end of term. If you know of families interested in attending Malvern Primary School in 2025, please encourage them to contact the school.

School Tours

School tours have recommenced and will be held every second Wednesday morning at 9.30am. Our next tour is next Wednesday 1st May. If you know of families interested in enrolling please encourage them to join one of our tours. Please contact the office to book in to join a tour.

Student Opinion Survey - Years 4 to 6

The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey for Year 4 to Year 12 students offered by the Department of Education to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school.

Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students from Years 4, 5 and 6 at our school will participate in the survey in the next few weeks. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of July.

Our students will complete the survey between 22nd May and the 5th June. Parents of students in Years 4 to 6 will be provided with more information closer to the survey date.

Dogs in the Yard

A number of families walk their dogs to school with them in the morning and afternoon.

All dogs who do come to the school are to be on a lead and controlled by an adult. All dogs, even little dogs, can sometimes be difficult for children to manage, for the safety of all communitry members please do not give the dog to your child to walk around the yard.

You must be in control of your dog at all times. If you have a meeting with a teacher, or you intend to come into the office or meet with a member of staff, please do not bring your dog and tie it to a post, please leave your dog at home.

Ski Competition

Parents are reminded that we have a meeting next Monday (29th April) night at 6.30 to provide information on this year's Interschool Ski Competition, including registration instructions.

This year’s Interschool Ski Competition will be run from the 19th to 21st August at Mt Buller. Your child does not need any previous race experience to compete and it is open to all ages of Primary (Prep to Year 6).

After the meeting next week we will share the information with all families, so if you can't make the meeting you will still be able to register your child for the event. Please contact Jess Worboys or Robyn James if you have any questions.

National Road Safety Week

National Road Safety Week is from the 5th to the 12th May (National Road Safety Week). This week focusses on remembering the lives lost on our roads and preventing loss of life. It highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.

'Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 40,000+* are seriously injured on Australian roads. Traffic injury is the biggest killer of Australian children under 15 and the second-biggest killer of all Australians aged between 15 and 24. These numbers are growing every year but are preventable if we choose to Drive So Others Survive!' (Road Safety Week website)

This week is also a timely reminder to us all of the importance of following road rules and teaching our children the behaviours that make them safer as they use the local streets to get to school and home again. Whether we like it or not our children are great mimickers of our behaviour and this includes the way we use the road.

We have regular lessons with our students on a range of road safety messages, it is also helpful if these are reinforced at home.

The lessons include, using crossings, holding an adult's hand when crossing the road, wearing bike helmets, not darting out from between parked cars, which side of the road to exit a car, how to look to ensure it is safe to cross a road, wearing seat belts, etc

We engage in public events such as the Open Street initiative, to highlight the importance of reducing congestion around the school and encourage other forms of travel to school - ultimately trying to make the arrival to and departure from school a little safer.

Adult Behaviour

I encourage all adults to reflect critically on their own road safety behaviour as they drop off and pick up their child/ren from school.

To wait an extra couple of minutes, to walk a couple more metres or to drive a little further to find a parking spot will not cause any great harm to you, but the decision to u-turn across the pedestrian crossing, walk your children across Tooronga Road away from the crossing, j-walk across the crossing, double park or park in a No Standing zone, could have serious consequences for you or another family - 'Choose to Drive so Others Survive'
