Celebrations of learning at Lucas Primary School
We have had a great start to Term 2 in Prep! Students have returned eager to learn and excited to see their friends.
In Integrated Studies, we are focusing on the Lucas Community and the history of Lucas. Last week we went on our first excursion around Lucas and identified a range of different places. When we looked at the different places, we identified their importance in our community.
In Reading, we are continuing to work on blending sounds together to read words. We are also learning about making predictions, asking questions about texts and retelling the beginning, middle and end of a story.
In Writing, we are learning about sentences and all of the important things that we need to include. Students are remembering to start a sentence with a capital letter, making sure our words make sense, using our finger spaces and adding punctuation at the end.
In Numeracy, we are using a range of hands-on materials to help us count a collection, create patterns and to measure different objects.
During Term 2 all grades learned about colours in Japanese. A colour song was introduced to the classes to assist with their learning. Year 1 and 2 classes learned 4 colours and on identifying and copying the 9 Hiragana characters related to those colours. Year 3 and 4 classes enjoyed singing the colour song and will try Karaoke with the song in a few weeks.
At the start of Term 2, Year 3-6 students completed their first speech to talk about their favourite animals in Japanese. I was very impressed with all students who recorded their speech and as such were uploaded to Seesaw to share with family members.
Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed learning to master the key 13 animals in Japanese through online games and then to test their knowledge. Year 5 and 6 students will start to learn how to ask and respond open-ended questions in Japanese so they can begin role plays in Japanese.
Congratulations to Bailey (5/6C) who received blue and purple Hiragana Belt certificates and Ellen (5/6D) and Sahu (5/6C) who received their yellow Hiragana belt certificate. These students have been attending the Japanese club at lunchtimes on Monday to further develop their Japanese language.
