The Art Room

Term 2

Welcome to Weeks 2 and 3!

Foundation

Foundation artists have explored the way that colour disperses on special paper. We have looked at Autumn leaves and their structure and the amazing colours they turn. We experimented with warm colours by scribbling texta colour randomly over the paper. Then we sprayed water and watched the magic happen. The following lesson we threaded beads and attached our leaves to branches to create a hanging sculpture.

Grade 1.

Making patterned paper has been fun! We stamped, splodged, swiped and skipped paint over our big paper to create lots of texture and patterns. Our favourite stamp was bubble wrap and wound wool over cardboard. Our special papers are going to be used to create some constructions over the next couple of art lessons.

Grade 2

Grade 2 artists have also been experimenting with dispersion paper but this time our papers were in the shape of Koi or carp. Our discovery of colour and how the colours react  with one another was made more exiting with the addition of water to help the colours merge. The following lesson, we added details with Colourslicks and sequins for bling. Our tails were streamers cut from the paper from which the colours transferred from the painted Koi. You will be able to see these beautiful Koi Windsocks exhibited in our Art Show planned for November.

Grade 3 and 4

We have been learning how to use tools to cut and our fingers to twist, shape and manipulate wire to create interesting shapes for a frame. We really loved the process of pressing into Aluminium shim or sheet with a simple pencil to create an embossed texture. We have threaded and tied an assortment of natural objects and beads and our embossed aluminium shapes onto our frames to create a sensory windchime.

Grade 5 and 6

I can't wait to share these beautiful artworks with the rest of the school! Grade 5 and 6 have been presented with a project designed to raise funds for our school. Each student was assigned a colour and asked to choose an object; a frame, a mini chest of drawers, a mini desk a hatbox to name just a few. Students were asked to paint a shape - geometric or organic - on the object with their colour. When the music stopped, we moved to the next object until our colour was on each of the many objects dotted around the room. We called the project Pass the Painting, inspired by a game that Mrs Verheijden played with her family. Stay tuned to see the progression of the paintings and the different stages we will add!

I look forward to sharing our artistic adventures with you next time!
