TERM 2

ANZAC Ceremony

On Thursday 25 April, our School Captains, Sophie and Josh, represented Mullum Primary School at the dawn service at the Ringwood Clocktower.  Sophie and Josh respectfully laid a wreath to remember all service men and women who have, and continue, to sacrifice their lives in wars around the world.

Bunnings BBQ

A huge thank you to Foundation families that joined us at the Ringwood Bunnings BBQ last Saturday, especially, Ayaka, Caitlin, Fiona, Garath, Kristy, Lauren, Lisa, Monika, Narelle, Rory, Sam, Simon and Val.  We raised $1022 profit towards the development of the school's sports field.

  • Presentation of the 2023 Annual Report, see the school website for the full version
  • Acquisition of land -After a lengthy process that commenced in 2018, a section of school land has been acquisitioned by Maroondah City Council for the installation of a storm water catchment area.  The land has been sold to the Council, by the Department of Education, and shortly Council will be installing a temporary perimeter fence and access driveway.  The land is adjacent to the vacant block on Mullum Mullum Road and is at the lowest point of the school property.
  • Approval to go ahead with redevelopment of areas of the oval to create a soccer pitch and cover the concrete cricket pitch with artificial turf.
  • Approval for the Paint & Sip Night being planned by Parents' Association

World Laughter Day - Sunday 5 May

Our focus for the Kooramook session today was World Laughter Day.  Students worked together in their cross age groups to make each other laugh.  There was Laughter yoga, laughing peg face craft, joke telling sessions with a follow up reflection on "Do you feel better now for having spend time laughing with your peers?"  The research says there are a number of health benefits to laughing, including improved general sense of wellbeing, release of endorphins, physical work out for your heart and abdomen, lower blood pressure and the benefits just continue.  Here are a fewthings you can do at home:

  1. Start a Joke Jar – This is a good activity to get the whole family involved in. Simply grab a jar and get people to write a joke on a piece of paper and place it inside of the jar whenever they think of one. Next time you have a family dinner or someone needs cheering up, you can grab some jokes from the Joke Jar.
  2. Learn to laugh at yourself – Take this day as an opportunity to teach yourself how to laugh at yourself properly. Most of us take ourselves too seriously! Learning to laugh at yourself enables you to be more vulnerable and more authentic – both are great traits to have.

Missing

The item shown below was removed from the Italian room on Tuesday 30 April.  We are actively looking for this so it can be returned.  If you have seen this item around please drop it off at the office.  Thank you.

Parking before school

Each year it is important to remind families about the parking restrictions on Panfield Ave. Thank you to families who are able to pay close attention, and adhere to these, however, we have noticed a couple of parking infringements that will eventually be a parking fine from Maroondah City Council.  Please be aware of:

  • There are four 'kiss and drop' parking bays on the lower end of the supervised crossing that are in operation in the mornings only.  You may get out of your car and help your child with their bag, however, they must then walk in to school on their own.  In the afternoon the 'kiss and drop' does not operate and you are able to park there
  • Secondly the yellow painted line on either side of the supervised crossing is a no parking zone whenever the crossing is being supervised.

The third point is not a parking infringement but more of a safety issue for people walking on the footpaths.  Doing a U-turn on Panfield Ave in order to return the way you came is putting pedestrians at risk of being hit by the car.  If cars were to continue up Panfield, along Wonga and down Byron St then your car would be heading in the right direction. Thank you for your understanding.
