Teachers Become The Students!

On our curriculum day last Friday, the teachers engaged in professional development with an inspiring educational consultant, Margarita Breed.  We learnt all about ourselves as mathematical learners, the ‘Big Ideas in Number’, and how to best support our students to develop deep understanding of number concepts.  It was wonderful to see all staff so engaged in learning, expanding their knowledge, working together, and sharing ideas. We all felt inspired and ready to further enhance the learning experiences for the little mathematicians in our classrooms.

See the table below for an overview of the Big Ideas in Number - just a snapshot of our learning!

Year 1 Excursion - Healesville Sanctuary

On Wednesday, the year ones went on an adventure to Healesville Sanctuary.  This was a great opportunity to enhance their learning about Australian Wildlife, including recognising common features (e.g. fur, feathers, scales), describing habitats and the reasons why some animals are endangered.  They were blessed by a perfectly sunny day, and returned to school excited to share their experiences!  Thank you to the teachers for organising the event, and to all the parents who came along to help out on the day - it is very much appreciated.

Communication

We value parent partnership and connection. Here are a few important reminders about Parent/Carer and Teacher communication.

  • If a matter needs urgent attention, please contact reception 9725 1206 and our admin team can relay messages as needed. Teachers are generally unable to respond to emails between 8.30am and 4pm as they are teaching or in meetings.
  • Regarding in person meetings before/after school: Unless the conversation you need to have is less than 2 mins and is specifically related to the day ahead, please email the teacher to make a phone or face to face appointment. This ensures matters can be given the time and attention they need.
  • Email communication: Please only use email correspondence to schedule a face-to-face meeting (or phone call), and list agenda items for discussion during the meeting, as opposed to communicating lengthy (and possibly complex) information through emails.
  • As per the Communication Policy, teachers have 48 hours (weekends not included) to respond to phone messages and emails.
