Mathematics

Our Mathematics topics for the term will align with two key areas in the Victorian Curriculum - Number & Algebra, and Measurement & Geometry.

·    Our Number & Algebra focus for the term will be Addition and Subtraction. We will look at the connection between addition and subtraction and solve simple problems using a variety of written and mental strategies. We will incorporate Maths games which support these skills in a fun and engaging way.

·    Our Measurement & Geometry foci will be Length and Time. We will compare and order objects according to length. Students will learn to read and interpret analogue and digital clocks to the half hour and solve time-related problems. They will also learn how to read and interpret calendars and become more proficient in understanding days, weeks, months, seasons and years as ways of measuring time.

·    We will also focus on 2D and 3D shapes. We will be drawing and manipulating shapes with and without digital technology. Our focus will be to describe the elements of 3D shapes.

The students  have been learning a variety of Michael Minas (Love Maths) fluency games to play as a class and in pairs. These games are designed to reinforce their knowledge of the number system. They will continue to do this throughout this term. We endeavour to share these with you throughout this term via our Seesaw posts.
