Foundation Unit

The Foundation students participated in their first Cross Country last Wednesday and we are incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves. Everyone gave it their best and stayed positive, despite it being a little chilly outside. Well done to the following Foundation students who received a ribbon for 1st-4th place.

In Literacy, students have continued to learn the text features for both fiction and non-fiction texts. Students have been exposed to a wide range of texts that link to our inquiry topic: How living things grow and change. We have explored both fiction and nonfiction texts about life cycles, bees, chickens, plants and butterflies. This has been a popular topic and the students have loved learning how to read and recall facts and information from the text.

In Writing, students have been writing about the facts they have learnt during our reading lessons. After a focus on labelling in the first two weeks, we have now moved to focusing on sentence structure and challenging ourselves to write more than one sentence. Students continue to use their letters and sounds knowledge to record the sounds in words, as well as using environmental print to help them write unknown words.

In Maths, we have had a big focus on counting on from ten and teaching the students how to ‘trust the count’ when using towers and bundles. We are working with the ‘teen’ numbers and the students are becoming more confident when adding units on to a ten by using concrete materials.

This Wednesday, the students enjoyed their first Lapathon. Well done to everyone for their efforts in this event.
