Captains Corner

Term Four

Jenna - Over the past few weeks, the Year Sixes have been granted with the rare opportunity to travel to the local secondary school, Doncaster Secondary College, and use their commercial kitchen to cook. 6C first cooked hamburgers and coconut balls, and the second time around, we cooked lasagna soup. We are so extravagantly lucky to have had this opportunity, not only because we were able to enjoy the food we made afterward, but also because this is giving us experience for Year Seven. Our time here is coming to a gradual close, and what we have learned in cooking will be useful for Year Seven when we participate in Food Tech and use more advanced technology like stoves and ovens, and new tools, that most children will never have had the chance to use in school, like knives, pans, and pots. The whole of Year Six expresses their gratitude to Mrs Milanese, Mr Johnson, Mrs Corfios and Mrs Scopas for organising this event for us.

Isaac - In Year Six we have been very lucky to go to Doncaster Secondary to do cooking it has been really fun and enjoyable. I liked making burgers and cooking with my friends, I am looking forward to cooking lasagne soup next week. It will help for high school as we will be doing food tech which is very exciting. It was useful to learn every day skills that we’ll use when we grow up whilst we were using the stove and using different kitchen utensils.

Adrina - In the past few weeks, the Year 6's have been walking to Doncaster Secondary College to have a couple cooking sessions. In the first session, we made ourselves burgers. We learnt how to handle things while in the kitchen. Today, my class is going again but this time to cook a deconstructed lasagne. These sessions are very important, as we will all be studying food tech next year. This will not only prepare us for the lessons that we will have later on but so that we learn how to cook for ourselves and it will eventually come to use one day.

Jude - In the last few weeks, the Year Sixes have been lucky enough to go to Doncaster Secondary College to use their cooking facilities to make some food.  In 6C we have made hamburgers, lasagne soup and coconut balls.  My personal favourite to eat and bake was definitely the lasagne soup.  I think that cooking at Doncaster Secondary College is a great opportunity for all of the year sixes because we will be doing this in food tech next year in high school.
