Book Week 2023 - Read, Grow, Inspire!

The library celebrated Book Week ‘under the sea’, with students joining in daily lunchtime raffles and book related competitions.

The highlight of our Book Week celebrations was a visit from guest author Ellie Marney to talk to Years 7 and 8 students about her ‘life of crime’, writing thriller novels for young adult readers.

Ellies’s crime trilogy, the Every series, and her YA standalone, White Night, have been critically and commercially successful in Australia and overseas and None Shall Sleep has become a New York Times bestseller.

Ellie told students her story – how an ordinary girl from country Queensland who loved the idea of storytelling, pursued her passion and eventually gained recognition and success as a published author. She explained how the inspiration and research for her books led her around the world – including Westminster Mortuary in London – to interview forensic and technical specialists in pursuit of just the right details.

Ellie answered many questions and signed bookmarks for students at lunchtime. All Ellie’s books are available to borrow from the library and are in high demand since her visit.
