PRINCIPAL's Report

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends

House Athletics

On Friday 4 August we held our first whole school house athletics in recent times. Despite the windy conditions, all students enjoyed the opportunity to participate or cheer on their friends. Well done to Mrs Jodie Burton who did a power of work organising the event, supported by Mr Luke Rowe, Ms Kylie Grech, Mr Steven Bonfadini, Mr Mal Burt, Mrs Mardi Shepherd, Ms Tiffany Greenhill, Mrs Jess Bambridge, Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Mr Jon Christie. There was such a positive feeling at the track, and a real connectedness for our students and staff to our great school.

Sister School – Lycee Jean Zay High School visit

We recently farewelled the ten students and one teacher from Lycee Jean Zay High School who visited as part of our French exchange program with our Sister School. The visit was a resounding success, thank you to all teachers who involved these students in classes and various activities. A special thank you to Mr Chris Sutcliffe, Mr Cam Heyes, Mrs Kate Forsyth and our Languages Learning Area for their efforts overseeing the visit. Thank you to our wonderful homestay families for their efforts hosting students.

Alumni Success

TOM DEBENHAM (Class of 2011)

We recently received an email from the proud parents of Tom Debenham who graduated from Frankston High School in 2011. Tom is now 30 and has been up to all sorts of exciting things, more recently, a contestant on MKR in 2023!

Tom’s parents wanted to thank all of his teachers throughout his six years with us and for the effort and hard work our staff put into each of their three children, Michael and Matthew too over the 16 years they were a family with us.

LUCA MASCARO (Class of 2021)

Luca Mascaro was recently awarded first place for joinery in the prestigious World Skills Australia National Championships.

We are extremely proud of Luca and his fantastic Design Technology teacher, Mr Matt Turner who was thrilled to hear of the award.

Winter Concert

On Tuesday 22 August we held our Winter Concert to a sell-out crowd in the PAT. It was wonderful to hear our talented ensembles play, as they highlighted their progression and prepare for upcoming competitions. We are really fortunate to have such talented staff teaching these students, led by the fantastic Mr Peter Sharp. Well done and thank you to our Music team: Mr Peter Sharp, Mr Dean Addison, Mr Ben Braithwaite, Mr Isaac Bakker, Ms Pauline Coates, Ms Gill Kinnear, Ms Peta Laughlin, Mr Andrew McAdam, and Ms Kim Starr for organising and running such an outstanding concert!!!

MATHS Week

Well done and thank you to Ms Kate Burgess and the Maths Team on their efforts organising and running various engaging lunchtime activities recently. The Rubick’s Cube competition was so popular and it was really wonderful to see so many students participating, being actively encouraged by their teachers.

SCIENCE Week

Well done and thank you to Ms Ebonie Burley and our Science Team for their efforts organising wonderful activities and resources for Science Week! There was great engagement from our students and staff, thank you to all of our Science team for their efforts highlighting and making Science Week such fun!

Wear it Purple Day

This is an annual LGBTIQA+ awareness day especially for young people, based in Australia. Supporters wear purple to celebrate diversity and young people from the LGBTIQA+ community. It was great to see many students and staff supporting this day by wearing something purple to show our FHS support of this day. Well done and thank you to Ms Erin Gooding and her team.

Cultural Immersion Assemblies

On Wednesday 23 August we ran Cultural Immersion Assemblies for our Year 7-10 students facilitated by Living Cultures. This created an opportunity for students to learn about First Nations cultures and histories. The Student House Leaders explained the reason for changing our house names to be more in tune with Indigenous culture. Our student leaders worked with Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation to approve our current house names. The sessions were extremely engaging and part of our recognition of NAIDOC Week. Well done to Mrs Leah Hannas, Mrs Jess Bambridge and Mrs Sarah Bahramis for organising this wonderful experience for our students.

Car Parking

We are looking forward to the completion of our building works next term. Whilst there is limited parking, a reminder to all parents and carers dropping their children off at school in nearby streets, to please not park or stop across driveways. Our neighbours appreciate your courtesy in enabling them to access their properties including in the morning and afternoon. Thank you for your support with this.
