PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

Congratulations Zen!

Zen and his team received a gold medal for the Ice Hockey Victoria Winter league! Zen will also be attending a national-level tournament in Brisbane in January.

During the school holidays, Zen was among the only group of children invited to join the LA Kings for a private clinic skating session, and the footage was featured on the NHL Website, Sportsnet, and ESPN internationally.

Zen and Kai were also invited to be part of the group of children to unveil the Street Hockey program with IHA at the NHL Event and went on the Today Show with his friends. They had a great time playing street hockey.

Congratulations Bronte!

Bronte represented Southport District at the Beachside Division Carnival in Murrumbeena on Tuesday. We are very proud of Bronte as he received a 3rd place ribbon in the 1500m distance and after having a fall up got back up and placed 7th in the 800m. He was up against some strong competition and showed great determination and endurance to complete both events.

SWIMMING LESSONS

Well done to all of our Preps, Year 1s and 2s for a fantastic week at swimming lessons. Thank you to all the classroom teachers for facilitating the swim program and especially those who gave up their lunch breaks and recess so that the students could attend lessons. Thank you to our parent community and amazing parent helpers that supported the program and for having your children equipped and ready for the lesson. This essential program wouldn't happen without your support.

It is vital that children continue swimming lesson after the school program.

The program introduces and refines the fundamental movement skills required in aquatic settings. There is also a big emphasis on many aspects of water safety including: swimming between the flags; never swimming alone and always swimming with a friend; lifejacket safety; how to identify and avoid dangers; know what to do in an emergency; read safety signs and checking conditions before swimming; and much more.

The program is designed to complement and not replace formal swimming lessons.
